2 minutes and 0 buzzwords for knowing WTH Web3 is
Web3 turns out to be the grandchild of the internet we used in the 90s by connecting our phones to the PC. The buzz was unbearable.
As they are family, Web3, and WWW, they look the same. Believe me, they are not. Let’s give them a quick look.
WWW was born from the need of the military to communicate quickly and safely. On the other hand, regular citizens created Web3 to achieve individual interests and goals.
WWW grew in users because it puts interaction into entertainment. It pushed away from the throne to TV and radio, which was considered “dangerous and evil” in its first stages. Web3 integrates users and creators in one place. There’s no distinction anymore.
WWW is open. The business model relies on the number of people visiting sites and the strength of the advertising muscle. It’s media. Monetizes exposure. Web3 is a village. Everyone can put their two cents and get two or more back. Creators, devs, businesspeople, artists, everyone brings value to the Web3, and everyone can make a profit from it. It’s a peer-to-peer system.
Physical centralization of WWW is an issue. Everything posted online is stored by central servers. Web3 is everywhere. Blockchain technology and the evolution of decentralized nodes allow the system to be everywhere and nowhere simultaneously.
Learning about Web3 isn’t just for nerdy people living in their parent’s basement. It’s for everyone. Just think of Bill Gates saying this and the (now we know) dumb reply he gets.
