I'm so happy to have received an arc of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review, because this book was magical and I can't wait to have it on my shelf once it is released.
Olive is an ER nurse who is terrified of flying. For her first flight ever, she is going to Orlando to run in the Disney half marathon. While on this flight, a passenger has an incident and she ends up saving his life. Being the day and age of social media, she goes viral, especially since the man she saved was an important person to the Disney theme park.
The flight gets diverted due to the emergency and this is where Olive meets Stella, a polished and put together pilot, and the co-pilot of this flight. Because of the diversion, Olive would miss her race in the morning. But in swoops Stella, who decides to drive Olive through the night to Florida because she also was planning to go to Disney for her days off.
After this trip, Stella proposes a plan: for them to pretend to be dating so help out Stella's goals of becoming captain some day, and also so Olive can have a steady hand beside her for all of the press and interviews that came with saving a life.
I was thoroughly delighted by the romance in this story, it was mostly light and fluffy and I really enjoyed that they had pretty healthy communication and were really good to each other overall. I think that it was interesting how they were lying to themselves but not to each other, and most of their issues were just external. Olive dealing with her brother on life support as well as a terrible family and a nutty ex, and Stella dealing with trying to rise the ranks in a very sexist boys' club industry while caring for her father who has Parkinsons. Both of their work lives and their relationships with each other and other people felt real and I give major kudos to the author for that.
This is Andie Burke's debut novel and I will be looking out for any other books she may write in the future, I think she's definitely one to watch.
