Lunar Return
Happy Lunar Return to me!
Now, you might be asking yourself, “Priscilla, what the heck is a lunar return?” Well, friend, let me tell you!
The simple answer is that it’s when your moon returns to the exact sign and position at the time of your birth.
Typically, you have one lunar return a month, however, there can be instances where you have two. I use Astro Seek’s planetary return calculator to a get list of my returns for a given year. Click the button to calculate yours!
So, for my Lunar return I enjoy doing a reading to see what I should focus on until my next Lunar return. This is the spread I created:
1- What is my focus or theme for this Lunar return?
2- What lessons will I learn during this time?
3- What challenges will I encounter during this time?
4- A final message.
You can use any decks you'd like with this spread. I choose to use the Magick and Mediums Oracle by Anielle Reid and illustrated by Ash Coloured, the Hush Tarot by Jeremy Hush and published by US Games, and Between the Worlds Oracle by Monica Bodirsky and published by RedFeather.
These are the cards I pulled for my spread:
1- What is my focus or theme for this Lunar return? Taboo
There’s a quote in the guidebook I really like, “Free yourself from the stigma and fears instilled by the public and media.” In relation to myself, I think of social conformity and feeling pressured to do the same things others might be doing. I need to focus on breaking free from conformity and do things that are unique to myself. Though, on the other side of the coin, I could interpret this as allowing myself to explore practices and paths that I consider new territory to myself and perhaps changing my perspective about them can help to open myself up to new experiences.
2- What lessons will I learn during this time? 7 of wands
Anyone else go back and forth with the meanings of the 7 of wands and 9 of wands? Or is that just me?
I would say that a lesson I’ll learn during this lunar return is to stand my ground. Which makes sense in relation to the taboo card. I feel like no one can really break free from conformity unless they are truly confident in themselves and what they believe in. And I think that sometimes, that’s something I need to get better at.
3- What challenges will I encounter during this time? King of pentacles
The king of pentacles is all about ambition, security, success in the upright position. In the reversed, this card is about poor judgement and decisions, stubbornness, and greed. Perhaps a challenge will that my ambitions and goals will get the better of me (can we say the green eyed monster everyone calls envy? haha), and perhaps my priorities are in the wrong place. Getting back to the root of what my goals were in the first place and being content with that.
4- A final message. Vertebra
The message from the guidebook for this card is, “Sometimes we receive external support, and other times we need to be our own support system.” I think for the most part of this reading, I really need to get myself in check and support myself better, my needs, my wants, without going overboard with it. Perhaps my external support will keep me in check too!
