This month’s theme is inspired by a realization I had last year about my personal style, which is that I only ever want to wear a white poplin button-up shirt. Tucked into jeans, open over a dress, tied around my waist, slung around my shoulders…it doesn’t matter, it just has to be somewhere on my body. And it’s funny, because until a few years ago I always thought I looked like a maître d' or a law clerk or something in one, but now I’m never without. All the associations one has with an oversized button-up feel like me to the core (art teacher vibes, Nancy Meyers movies, prep, Ina Garten, pajama sets, etc.) and I’ve decided to embrace them all.
So behold, an ode to the shirt:
