so your bestie wrote a book and shes coming back to the US for the first time in 2 years
this is a common situation.
if you know me at all, you know how much i love ELLE NASH. at this very moment, i am sitting across from her in a brooklyn starbucks while she responds to important emails, and i do this. she’s on the tail end of her book tour, she has an event at the motherfucking STRAND, and looks like a glowing, gorgeous angel and shes running on fumes (what a bitch, right?)
elle and i met in 2015 in a personal essay class with my FAV CHLOE CALDWELL, over on litreactor (RIP). i loved her writing, and thought she was so cool and told her on the comments section of class that her name reminded me of my fav degrassi:next generation character growing up, ELLIE NASH.
elle told me ellie nash was her fav, too. and that she became elle nash when she got married.
she quickly became a close friend who i texted all day, every day. we met IRL in 2016, and have tried to get together at least once a year IRL since. (until a global pandemic, and this bitch moving to scotland)
its been so cool/such an honor to get to see elle birth 3 chapbooks, a lit mag (with honestly, some of the coolest merch in the entire lit world), FOUR BOOKS, a patreon, and honestly theres so much more. elle is a creative genius, incredibly hard worker, and renaissance woman.
so what do you do when your bestie published her FOURTH book and is returning from scotland for a US tour? YOU MAKE SOME SHIRTS.
STAN SHIRTS
What you’ll need
a shirt
some program where you can select text and make a PNG file
a sister with a cricut and heat press. (or your own cricut and heat press, if you’re independent like that)
heat press vinyl
HOW TO:
ask your sister if she can print shit on her cricut and help you make t shirts for your friend.
order shirts on amazon, or somewhere. or use a shirt you already have for yourself if you want.
ask your friend REAL SNEAKY LIKE what size shirt/what style she likes.
pick a shirt, and then return the other 294883 you ordered on amazon, because you werent sure of sizing, material you can heat press, quality, what style will look best on you
make a design you like outta their name, i used canva. and got the trial of canva pro or whatever so i could see ALL the fonts, then i cancelled before id be billed.
go to your sister’s house on the pre-agreed date and time
watch your sister WEED the vinyl, because she already “print out” the shit on the cricut
watch your sister measure out where it should be on the shirts, and then stick on the sticky after lint rolling it the sticky.
use the heat press thing (she says you can prob use an iron, but if you have a sibling who has a heat press and can do it, i def rec that route)
VOILA YOU HAVE A SHIRT
i made two designs, ELLE NASH for the fab jillian luft and i, and DELIVER ME for elle because i wasnt sure shed want a shirt with her name on it.
ok love you byeeeee
and if you haven’t bought elle’s new book yet, you’re dead to me.
