My Dear Friends,
I hope this letter finds you well and engaged in pursuits that bring you joy!
As I write to you now, my days are brimming with activity in my studio where I have completed three clay sculptures and have another in progress. Additionally, a finished bronze piece is making its way back to me from the foundry!
The latest of the finished sculptures in my studio is called “Parsley”- a vision I carried in my mind for almost two years.
I sculpted my adult daughter, Adiana, as the anchor in a bed of parsley- an herb of healing, adornment, and vitality. She emerges from the earth, intertwining past and present, with fresh, bright ideas, refinement in her words, and a heart full of forgiveness. The tendrils of nature cradle her, echoing the tender care she offers to the world.
Neither of us knows exactly how many hours were spent—Adiana, my sweet middle child, patiently held her position as I sculpted every curve and crevice of her beautiful body. I've never had the opportunity to create a sculpture entirely using a live model before, and I managed to place the finishing touches just before Adiana and I hit the road in a U-Haul to move her across the country
Sculpting my adult daughter has been one of the most emotional and rewarding experiences of my career—a true labor of love! We were able to spend the most cherished, intimate time together while she modeled and I marveled at her feminine beauty, capturing all of it in clay, all while knowing she'd be moving away soon.
As she embarks on her journey across the expanse of a new chapter, I find solace in knowing that the essence of our shared moments is forever immortalized in the lines and curves of this sculpture. Every touch of my hands, every mindful conversation, all are now embodied in the art that has emerged from the depths of our bond.
Where artist and subject intertwine, love and artistry shape not just material, but memory itself.
I'll cherish this one forever.
Though it was a deeply rewarding departure to sculpt the body of a grown woman, my passion for depicting joyful children leads me back to my happy niche.
I’m thrilled to introduce you to “Tomorrow’s Glory!”
She rises and sets with the sun, beaming her light into each waking moment and promising to rise again tomorrow, perhaps in a new light.
Creating “Tomorrow’s Glory” brought me such joy. After all, nothing else in life feels quite so right as seeing our children happy! Capturing the essence of youthful delight in this sculpture was a profound experience, and that inspiration has resonated beyond the piece itself.
The enchantment of "Tomorrow’s Glory" led me to design a collection of jewelry that echoes her vibrant spirit. In either white rhodium or 18k gold plate, the luminance of these pieces is as distinctive as the sculpture that sparked their creation.
The journey that brought to fruition all of these creations, “Parsley” as much as “Tomorrow’s Glory”, tells of the interconnectedness, of art, memory, and emotion.
Each sculpture and piece of jewelry is a testament to the beauty that can emerge when creativity intertwines with the experiences and emotions that shape our lives.
Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey. May the stories these artworks tell continue to inspire and uplift us all!
With heartfelt appreciation,
