You'll never guess which animal book the Nazis banned.
English version below
Yo me he comprado una edición ilustrada preciosa.

He came into the world in the heart of the forest, in a hidden corner that, although it appeared open on all sides, was well protected. In that space there was just room for him and his mother.
There he was at last, staggering alarmingly on his thin legs, looking out with misty eyes that saw nothing, his head drooping, trembling and still very dazed.
Can you imagine who it could be?
Just think about it.
I leave you physical and mental space.
Bambi!
That fawn we all have associated with the Disney movie, was not born as a children's story, but as a novel for adults about the life of animals.
It is Felix Saten's masterpiece, the crown jewel of Austrian literature, and was published in 1923. At that time, very ugly things were brewing in Austria.
After World War I, the peace treaties left the economy of those people pretty humpbacked.
So they looked for a culprit.
The Jews, of course.
And that's how that anti-Semitic current was created, and we know how it ended up.
Well, Bambi is an allegory of the climate that prevailed at the time, prior to the catastrophe.
To describe the situation, Salten skillfully combined his own life (Bambi comes from the Italian bambino), the political issues of adulthood and the behavior of animals.
The roe deer and butterflies would symbolize the Jews and the hunters would represent the anti-Semites who already defined themselves as "Jew-hunters". So in 1936, the Nazis banned the book. One problem less.
And then the Disney movie eclipsed it.
But beyond that, Bambi is a beautiful depiction of the animal world and the forest, reminding us that animals and humans are much more alike than we insist on thinking.
I have come to this book because I am taking a course to learn how to write stories for children. And the teacher, who is an encyclopedia with legs that you can't get tired of listening to, recommended it.
In fact, he talked about it as a great read for high schools.
I bought a beautiful illustrated edition.
I love illustrated stories.
When my children were little, wherever I went, I looked for bookstores to buy them illustrated stories and I have a beautiful collection.
Now I buy them for myself. I've reached an age where I don't need excuses. Well, I also think of my little nieces and nephews. The kings of Aunt Chus always bring stories.
