Hey girl,
If you made it to ‘Unwined’ I’m so glad you came! You and the girls said that you wanted monthly events so I gotchu! If you missed out, no worries! Keep reading and you’ll find out how to unwind like us.
It all started when…
I was inspired to create a cozy space for ladies to sip wine, socialize, and bask in a relaxing Sunday evening that infused hygge [hoo-gah] - a Danish concept that’s defined as:
A calm comfortable time with people you love. A complete absence of frustrations, or anything emotionally overwhelming, often enjoyed with good food and drink, warm blankets and candlelight.
Let’s go down the checklist shall we?
A calm comfortable time with people you love
The girls showed up to the space full of smiles and warmth. The Un(wined) playlist set the tone with afro beats, r&b, and a few 2000’s throwbacks featuring our faves like Tems, Victoria Monét, SZA and more.
Give it a listen:
Have you ever met someone for the first time and instantly fell in love with their energy? Happens to me at nearly every event I’ve had so far. This time, I met Reese - co creator of Black Girls Who Love Wine and Morgan, founder of The Takeoff - an LA based community for black female content creators and transplants in LA. These are just a couple of the many ladies who arrived ready to support and embrace a new community of women.
Originally, the expectation was for ladies to sit in separate areas and move around the room to enjoy the different offerings. But somehow we always end up pulling chairs around one table so we can be close to each other.
It’s an unexpected surprise that fills me with joy because too often I’ve seen, experienced, and heard how funny acting women can be towards each other…If you’ve experienced that, come hang with us.
It’s all love over here!
A complete absence of frustrations, or anything emotionally overwhelming
S/O to Misha from LAX Massage Bae for physically removing any bodily tension, stress, and aches with her on site massages! Also, she just had a birthday - so send her virtual birthday love by checking out her page and giving and her a follow!
I wish I could show you how much the ladies loved Misha. Channing was the first one to give her a try, and once she finished her session - the sign up sheet filled up quick!
Thank you Misha!!
Good food & drink
Here’s the deal, if I’m really trying to unwind. I want some comfort food, and thanks to Katrina at K. Michelle’s Kitchen Catering and Rochelle from Selah Bakery - we got just that!
The cajun pasta paired well with our array of wine, and once we were ready for a sweet treat - Katrina’s peach cobbler and Rochelle’s vegan cookies held it down.
Sis, I kid you not, once I put that cookie in my mouth, my eyes got real big and I was in heaven. I love soft chocolate chip cookies, and after I got a taste of Rachelle’s cookies, I hid a couple to take home…shhhh, don’t tell.
Overall, the food hit the spot - way better than the girl dinners I’ve been having the last few weeks. I know the girls felt the same way, because most of them a to go plate.
Can you blame em?
Warm blankets & candlelight
Sooo I didn’t bring blankets, but I did bring candles. Once the sun set, I lit all the candles I had on the table and floor, which added to the ambiance of the space. By this time, ladies are on their second or third glass of wine (or water), we’re all warmed up to each other, got food in our bellies, and are simply enjoying each others company.
This was also the perfect time to give a lil speech and thank all the ladies for joining me for an evening of relaxation and comfort. Everyone left with a candle, a gift from Misha, and a Burn Book I created.
The Burn Book included coloring pages, journal prompts, discount codes from black women owned businesses in LA, and more!
This way, ladies could continue unwinding at home, and have additional ways to include healthy self care practices into their routine.
So let’s run it back:
