Faketivists
The lockdown regime will forever be known for not just its willful cruelty and lack of understanding of science but also its inability to grasp that nobody in 2024 wants any part of it.
Online sites are rife with new complaints by faketivists about how people who they seek out for political alliances aren’t taking COVID seriously—and haven’t since the initial lockdowns. Why would they? Why would people who fought against lockdowns and mask mandates start supporting them now? And why would they unite with those who fight against their principles?
Ironically, some of the faketivists claim to be seeking organizations that support bodily autonomy, even after mandates supported by these faketivisits violated bodily autonomy.
A sample of their online posts: “None of them mask. ... I can’t take their activism seriously anymore. ... They’re just latching on for fake internet points and getting laid. ... NO ONE is being truly intersectional in my area, and it is infuriating and utterly discouraging. ... I can’t take anyone seriously if they’re talking about praxis and can’t be arsed to wear a mask.”
Here’s more: “It has absolutely shattered my faith in the left. ... The amount of ‘leftist’ organizers who don’t require masking at events or even their meetings is wild.” Again, why would they? I started a progressive zine in 1993 and had no idea that anyone would ever say it wasn’t truly on the left just because it didn’t demand people wear a diaper on their face on a beach. Nobody even imagined it in 1993, so why should it be taking place now?
If anyone is just trying to score points online and offline, it’s faketivists. If you point any of this out to them, they’ll assail you as a “class reductionist.” Or—perhaps funnier—as a “right-wing Trump supporter”, despite copious evidence to the contrary. They claim to be “leftists” even though they supported the lockdowns instituted by right-wingers like Mike DeWine, Doug Ford, Rodrigo Duterte, and Boris Johnson. They also sided with President Mario Abdo Benítez of Paraguay, where police proudly shared videos of themselves torturing lockdown violators.
We know faketivists are phony, because there’s no way they can possibly be serious people. They use big words like intersectional and praxis just because they heard actual serious people use them. They’re a self-parody.
They also have a website nobody reads and a political party nobody supports. The party’s three followers apparently broke away from an actual socialist party, and now it’s become a CIA op.
All things considered, the people, parties, and websites described above are not serious folks. They’re as much of a self-parody as a zine fest I read about that ended up drawing hardly any attendees because it was such a joke. So let’s not egg them on or do their dirty work. Let’s put them in a corner where they can just complain into a void.
