L.A. Times lies again
The previous entry in this series was about the American media’s COVID propagandizing—which is a suitable topic in light of the big whopper that the Los Angeles Times just put out.
Mao Zedong once said that if you want people to believe a lie, don’t tell a little fib. Tell a big one. The Times seems to live by that credo. The paper has just published an op-ed by longtime COVID bugbear Dr. Eric Topol that absurdly claims we’re in one of the worst COVID surges yet.
In fact, Topol insists this is the biggest surge outside the rise of Omicron two years ago. He says two million Americans are being infected daily. But Worldometer begs to differ. Worldometer reveals it’s actually about 15,000—one of the lowest counts in four years. Topol is off by a factor of 133. In addition, deaths are at the lowest number since the WHO declared a pandemic.
The Los Angeles Times repeats Topol’s propaganda with a straight face.
Buried deep in the article is an admission that current COVID variants are causing very few hospitalizations. Yet Topol plows ahead with his main point, which is—you guessed it—that we’re not masking hard enough. Topol also blames the Biden administration for not demanding masks enough.
When this then-novel coronavirus first appeared, a lot of articles were written describing how it would evolve within a few years to become just another bough on the voluminous pile of common colds we were already forced to suffer. This is actually what has happened. Articles from early 2020 were accurate. The lying propaganda that came later is not. The earlier articles properly touted herd immunity, but later pieces have denied herd immunity. At one point, supposedly serious outlets claimed that herd immunity will simply never exist for this virus, so all the time spent waiting for it was wasted. You could just feel their glee at being given a new excuse to extend restrictions.
The virus’s declining severity is herd immunity in action. Herd immunity happens whether the media likes it or not.
The new year—2024—is being kicked off with perhaps more COVID alarmism than any before. This looks like yet another year in which ingenuity, science, and discovery will be swept aside in favor of more moralizing and social engineering.
