I have heard many time over the years about Blue Dog Democrats. Folks who vote Democrat, but aren’t in favor of the far left radical agenda. In this election cycle I have heard a few commentators say that most democrats don’t really support all of the woke, marxist, gender-bending madness that is running their party. While I am sure there is truth in that statement, I think another element has to be considered.
When I think of a Blue Dog Democrat, I think of a tradesman or a farmer who has worked hard all of his life, believes in good moral values and basically lives his life in a socially conservative way. He believes that the Republican Party represents “Big Money” and Democrats stand up for the little guy.
We could debate the truths and falsehoods of this viewpoint for hours, but I would instead like to bring attention to the fact that the Blue Dog Democrat is leaving the stage. Most of the men/women who we would put in that category are either retired or retiring soon. Their numbers are shrinking dramatically. While I’m sure they are still somewhat influential, they may not be near as influential as some people still believe.
On the other hand, many Generation “Z” folks will be voting for the first time. These young adults in large part have been totally and completely brainwashed through the public education system. To use an “Animal Farm” reference; the puppies have been let out of the house. These kids have been trained to be Marxist, Communist, Socialist robots.
So my question to everyone reading is: Which group will have the greater influence, the Blue Dogs or the GenZ’s?
My first guess would be none of the above, but I am not really sure. As an old guy I can attest to the old guard centrist Democrats are nearly extinct. John Kennedy would have been a right wing, white nationalist extremist by todays standards.
Who knows which generation may be bigger influence, but I am sure who it wont be.
Good article, Ben.
