Introducing The Edison Manufacturing Exchange
Thoughts on transportation, manufacturing, and impact
Welcome to The Edison Manufacturing Exchange! I’m incredibly excited about what’s ahead.
Future editions, which should come monthly, will likely include support from the team at Edison Manufacturing and Engineering. This introductory edition is written solely by me (Brandon).
So…
Why a newsletter?
I have a few objectives in mind:
To share the latest transportation and manufacturing-related information that comes my way, primarily through the channels highlighted below
To provide a forum to synthesize and distill this information as it comes
To provide an easy channel for like-minded people to engage in a two-way discussion (just respond to this email or shoot a note to brandon.bartneck@edison-mfg.com)
If you know me, this probably doesn’t surprise you. You might already understand that the objective in my work (and much of my life) is to have a meaningful, positive impact on the people around me. This includes the people I get to interact with on a regular basis (coworkers, customers, suppliers, partners, etc.), as well as my community, and society in general. My work’s impact and the opportunities it provides for making real, human connections, drives me more than exactly “what” I’m doing at times.
With that said, my “what” is pretty cool too. It’s at the intersection of transportation and manufacturing, often centered around the quest to enable safer, more sustainable, more effective, and more accessible methods of moving goods and people.
This work is made up of two main activities:
I’ve been hosting the Future of Mobility podcast (https://brandonbartneck.com/futureofmobility/) since early 2020. It’s an interview-style podcast, focused on how we can improve the way people access the things that mean the most to them. I get to talk with the people leading this charge, making the transportation ecosystem better each day.
My “day job” is even more exciting. I serve as Vice President and General Manager of Edison Manufacturing and Engineering. Edison is a niche contract manufacturer focused on capital-efficient assembly of complex mobility and mobility-related products. We’re an enabler for the people and companies building low volume products within the transportation ecosystem. Drawing on over four decades of automotive powertrain supply experience from our sister company, PJ Wallbank Springs, we provide the manufacturing know-how and execution capabilities to bring their physical products to the world.
Future of Mobility gives me the space to dream and think big. Edison brings that down to earth, allowing me (and our team) the ability to execute in a manufacturing setting.
Dreams are nice. Execution is better.
These two roles provide a nice balance of the two.
Reeling it back in, I hope this newsletter helps me connect with more people and stretch my curiosity further.
To that end, I’d like to make three quick asks as this wraps up:
If any of the above information caught your attention, please make sure to hit one of the “subscribe” buttons and enter your email address. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, and I’d love to have you along for the ride.
Please provide a simple response to this email. Specifically, please answer this question – what one thing are you most hoping to get out of this? I imagine you’re rolling your eyes right now and don’t want to participate (I’d be the same way), but please consider it. This information will help to shape the direction of this newsletter. It will also help to train your spam filters, so this newsletter doesn’t get filtered out in the future. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but a quick response would be incredible.
Please share with anyone else who you think might be interested.
That’s it for now. Thanks for coming on this journey.
The first regular edition is coming soon.
Until then, best of luck.
