Brave New Brief - Wake up to the rain in the morning, wake up from your gold dust dreaming
11.27.23 Indie rock & pop recommends vetted by Tricia Halloran
To sum up this month’s picks, we’ve got atmospherics and we’ve got songwriting. Always songwriting. I saw Herman Dune (David Ivar) perform last night at Zebulon in Los Angeles, and he was transcendent. I listened to Cat Power Sings Dylan on the way to (and from) Zebulon and it was the perfect accompaniment. Then when David name-checked The Mountain Goats (one of last month’s picks) *and* Dylan from the stage, it felt like everything was in exactly the right place, including me. Wish you were there! ~tricia
PS I’ll be back at Zebulon Dec 9 to see Jeffrey Martin, one of this month’s recommends, I’m just sayin’ …

When you want to be the most indie in the room …

If “Falling Slowly” is your karaoke song …
Glen Hansard “All That Was East Is West Of Me Now”
Glen’s career sets the bar pretty high but I’d still call this one of his best. Inspiring.
