Hello Hi! And Happy New Year!
It’s my great pleasure to introduce you to: Caravan. A bi-weekly (for now) newsletter where I’ll be exploring a smattering of concepts and theories, daydreams and science, all on the greater theme of maximizing our human potential—both as individuals, and as a global community.
You’re receiving this newsletter because at some point in my life, maybe even recently, we’ve come to know, respect and appreciate each other. For that… for YOU… I’m deeply and humbly grateful.
My most sincere hope is that what you’ll read here will stimulate your curiosity, provide a few moments of pause and reflection, and perhaps even activate an intention or two, long-fermented and/or 100% garden fresh.
For those of you as yet unfamiliar with my day job, these writings will be a form of adventure reportage from my work as a certified professional coach and mentor. I have the tremendous honor of working most days with people making massive changes in their lives, most often but not limited to, making mid-life career shifts.
These shifts not only change my clients’ professional lives, but invariably, the whole of their lives and those around them. You’ve likely come across this idea once or a hundred times, but let’s chew on it together for a sec: how we do anything is how we do everything.
Change one thing, minute or gargantuan, and you’ll change it all.
Rest assured, you’ll get oodles more details on this and more as we partner up on what I hope will be an invigorating conversation through and around what it means to be human in the 21st century. YOUR kind of human—only you as you can ever be.
And that’s exactly what this will be, if my machinations prove effective, a partnership. As we meander through topics like the ‘motivation myth’, ritual and habit-building, how to use astrology without feeling like you’ve gone off the deep end, and the wild neuroscience of journaling, I’ll be calling on you for feedback, questions, suggestions and some storytelling of your own.
I’ll likely be getting fairly personal, while deliberately cultivating a safe and trusting space for us to experiment together.
In addition to my coaching work, I’m also a cancer and intimate abuse survivor, recovered marketing executive and former professional drinker, late-bloomer wife, mom and stepmom, so the range of personal experience here will be, well… wide and rambling. Not everything will resonate for everyone, and that’s a-okay. Kindly take what works and feel free to leave the rest.
Until soon, yours alongside,
Bree
PS // The title of this newsletter, while fairly obvious in it’s primary definition, is also a reference to one of my favorite Jazz standards of all time. You can take a listen to Buddy Rich’s completely bonkers version of the original Duke Ellington here.
Wow, Bree, I don’t know how I stumbled upon your Substack but you and I seem to have a few things in common. After reading this post, I had to subscribe. I am also a two-time cancer survivor (cervical and breast) and have had both of my long-term relationships end traumatically, one of them just a few months ago. I am currently at a cross-roads with respect to my career and feeling like I need to move in a different direction, but I can’t yet see the path to take. I also have a layman’s interest in neuroscience, which is a topic you mentioned, so I am intrigued. I have been following neuroscientist Andrew Huberman and listen to his podcast regularly.
I’m so happy you are here and I can’t wait to read more of your work and connect with you!
Ha! Me neither, so just googled. Damn… can’t make my millions on that idea either. 😆
