A[CON]BC
If you were disturbed by the ABC's "4Corners" latest ACON Propaganda Piece "Blocked", please write in a complaint to the ABC Ombudsman. Here's how:
The ladies over at Women’s Cooee have created this fun graphic (and helpful guide) for you to check out - if all goes well, you’ll be sipping champagne in about 30 days! 🥂
The most important thing is that you make your complaint within 6 weeks.
The ABC will ignore anon complaints, so give a name and an email (if you want to stay anon, start up an Activism Email and name for yourself - you’ll certainly get a lot of use out of it!).
With a complaint like this, it’s best if you give it your own personal touch.
Here is everything you need to get started:
Your opening should contain this information, and you can ad-lib later.
Select one or more of these standards to write about. You do not need to look at all of them.
I am writing in regards to ABC 4Corners episode Blocked aired Monday 10th July 2023. The episode is also available on view at https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-10/blocked:-the-battle-over-youth-gender-care/102584850
I am making a complaint about the content of this broadcast, and would like my complaint to be handled by the ABC Ombudsman’s office.
In this broadcast, ABC has specifically breached its standards on accuracy and impartiality.
THESE ARE THE STANDARDS THEY MAY HAVE BREACHED2.1 Make reasonable efforts to ensure that material facts are accurate and presented in context.
2.2 Do not present factual content in a way that will materially mislead the audience. In some cases, this may require appropriate labels or other explanatory information.
4.1 Gather and present news and information with due impartiality.
4.3 Do not state or imply that any perspective is the editorial opinion of the ABC. The ABC takes no editorial stance other than its commitment to fundamental democratic principles including the rule of law, freedom of speech and religion, parliamentary democracy and equality of opportunity
4.2 Present a diversity of perspectives so that, over time, no significant strand of thought or belief within the community is knowingly excluded or disproportionately represented.
4.4 Do not misrepresent any perspective.
4.5 Do not unduly favour one perspective over another.
Your turn!
Add the things you hated, for example, the Host did not declare her ties to ACON.
The exploitation of the suicide of a female child with Anorexia Nervosa.
The bias toward the Affirmation Model - despite mounting evidence to the contrary.
Continuing to falsely claim puberty blockers are reversible, and harmless.
Declaring “Gender Identity” is not a religion, or an ideology, and that everyone just innately “has one”.
Lack of clarity between the definition of Sex and Gender.
The LIE that humans can change sex.
The dismissive attitude and denial of ROGD (Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria, as a social contagion).
…and, anything else that you particularly hated!
You can read the Media Release from AF4WR for some more insight, as well.
Here are some more points that can be raised - you don’t have to choose them all; pick one, and go to town!
Mischaracterises the debate as “a war”, a “feud” and a rights struggle
Bias
presents one side more favourably than the other
Gives undue weight to a junior psychologist who worked at Westmead for only a few months
Says that ROGD is contested
Uncritically accepts that the children have a gender identity
Presents the Westmead study conclusions as incorrect
E.g. the parent who allowed her daughter to participate in research, but was not happy with the outcome
Criticising the Westmead study but not explaining the content or providing a link to view the study
Misrepresents the discussion in the published study
Trans doctor discusses desistance
Associates gender sceptics with divisive political figures - nazis, Trump
Improper presentation of suicide cases - uses the case of a girl with an eating disorder to justify gender treatment
“PATRICIA KARVELAS: If there had been doctors from the gender service being able to see Noah, do you think that would've made a difference? I mean, we can't know.”
Reports that puberty blockers are reversible, downplays side effects
This is part of a pattern of ABC uncritically supporting puberty blockers:
2014 - 4 Corners - Being Me
2016 - Australian Story - About a Girl
2020 - 4 Corners - Not A Boy Not A Girl
2020 - First Day
2021 - Australian Story - A Balancing Act

For example, I am particularly fuming about the exploitation of teenage suicide; emotional blackmail; and propaganda. I think I’ll go to town on that.
This dark and brilliant film - Heathers, from 1988 - highlights Propaganda and the Social Contagion of Suicide amongst teenagers. Suicide becomes “cool”.
The Television show reboot from 2018 was so good, it was “cancelled”.
