Selena Quintanilla could be commemorated in a coin in recognition of the beloved Tejana artist slain by her fan club manager on March 31, 1995. On Tuesday, Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-TX) introduced H.R. 8019, a bill to require Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to mint commemorative coins in Selena’s image.
Yolanda Saldivar famously murdered Quintanilla at a hotel in San Antonio after the artist discovered that she was embezzling money. Her death had a broad impact on the Latino community in the U.S. and Latin America. Selena would have been 53 years old on April 16.
