Is Catholic Social Teachings(CST) the correct answer if everyone in our politics is different? A Look at CST and the Dominant Economic Paradigm
I am proposing more questions than answers, but questions open up windows to SEE and then we can begin to JUDGE and hopefully ACT.
Is Catholic Social Teachings(CST) the correct answer if everyone in our politics is different? A Look at CST and the Dominant Economic Paradigm.
I am proposing more questions than answers, but questions open up windows to SEE, and then we can begin to JUDGE and hopefully ACT.
Applying the See-Judge-Act Methods.
The two significant moral challenges of our times are solving climate change and eliminating extreme poverty. But we choose not to act on either. Will emerging technology help solve or add to the problem? How will Technology impact CST? Are the two divorced from each other?
The "modern" market was invented in the Middle Ages. Buyers and sellers came to a crossroads... to show their wares and haggle. They came by donkey. Now they come via the Internet... at the speed of light. The Internet is, after all, just one significant (electronic) crossroads. NOW factor in the elements of AI and emerging Technology.
EXPONENTIAL CHANGE: Digitization, Decarbonization, and Reformation
The next ten years will bring more change than what
Accelerated by the 'new normals' of the COVID-19 crisis, we are going full force, warp-drive into a future characterized by Digitization, Decarbonization, and Reformation of Technology, Ecology, and Collaboration.
Think of this as a new economic logic 'Beyond GDP,' a new focus on purpose & humanity, and the new role of policy-makers and government. Do you See the signs of this evolving today? Listen to the news; we as humans seem to move in measurements of eons, so we think, but as a global society, the best we can do "is make sausage" and produce policies. Will Emerging Technology enable humans to engage globally in an "ongoing process of improvement"? As we Discern the good, the bad, and the ugly, what decisions do we face shortly?
Emerging Technology significantly impacts consumers globally, all aspects of digital commerce, and brands. David Bowie once said, "The future belongs to those who can hear it coming.".
How are we developing a 'future mindset,' Are we adequately questioning each other's assumptions, and have we developed the ability to respond to the framework changes? Because the future is no longer about 'tomorrow '– the end is already here; are we paying enough attention yet?
With the arrival of AI and the expansion of the Internet, does corporate and human Control disappear?
As we experience new realities and new ways of replacing what is old in our society, replacing what is harmful to our environment, Businesses today are about making something happen. People are still determining what the products will do and what the markets will be. Who is deciding? Why are they choosing? What methods and processes are used to make those decisions?
Do Markets define themselves? You have to be able to react to them organically….Within the supply chain.
Is Control an illusion? Did it ever exist?
With the onset of AI, will our understanding of "Control" be an illusion?
Advancing AI as an 'evolving maturity' in the age of the autonomous revolution is no longer a question of "if" but "when."
It's an opportunity facing every industry, every organization, and every leader. And as there is an incentive to move quickly.
Think about the impact on culture and religion. How will AI change beliefs? Practices? Community? We have seen the changes technology made to society and culture during the agricultural and industrial revolutions, so we know change is coming during the autonomous process.
If we go to ACT, the place to start is to think about the areas our decisions will impact. A suggestion: The Industrial Revolution was all about productivity and often at the cost of the workers, environment, and culture that changed how we lived and behaved in the world. Lessons we can learn from Joseph Cardijn about the cause/effect of the Industrial Revolution. As we evolve in this new revolution that will be AI-driven, I am suggesting we make our decisions using the SEE-JUDGE-ACT method within a framework of the Quadruple bottom line: People, Planet, Purpose, and Well-Being. The coming wave of automation and emerging Technology will move beyond the factory, blue-collar, and white-collar workers beyond public infrastructure and into our Biological processes such as aging and birth.
What kind of future do we want? Are our current belief systems adequate? Will religion change?
'New Technology Deals 'are blossoming everywhere. The new funding sources are flowing into AI development, climate change adaptation, and mitigation of constraints in the workplace; think about the impact globally. Are all those being affected taken into the equation?
Deciding and Acting are critical at this stage of development in the autonomous revolution. Our actions and decisions will lay the foundation for transitioning workers from one set of skills to skills still in development. But the rate of change is occurring faster than most people expect. We need to ACT now.
10 KEY FACTORS TO CONSIDER FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS: What to understand about today's immediate future.
Exponential technological change: Think Societal Phase Change
Robots of all varieties will find a way into our lives)Who will decide and why?
Virtuality: AR/MR/VR and the Metaverse: What does this do to the mind? Will evolution play a role?
Post-Covid and (hopefully) Post-Russia/Ukraine War: Perma-Crisis / a strange kind of 'Golden Era'? We are a global society more than ever, and who is leading the charge?
New Economic models? What does Social Democracy look like in the Autonomous Revolution? Can we shift beyond GDP / Profit and growth towards the Quadruple bottom line: People, Planet, Purpose, and Well-Being?
Will the Autonomous Revolution drive sustainability? Will we understand better how to manage our environments? Is New Green = equal to the Big Future? What new movements must we be considering to address this change?
Will humans undergo a new renaissance in education, humanities, and corporate life, and how will life with/after emerging technology and AI be decided? Will humans still matter? How will we know? How do we get people to understand the difference in being human and the difference it makes?
Will we better understand the long versus the quarter-by-quarter view of measuring progress? Who will keep the "reality check" on 'big promises made versus promises kept?'
The future of work and skills is from efficiency and optimization to agility, resilience, and creativity. Our ultimate job is to be human on this planet. What will it take to make that understood?
The convergence of emerging in the sciences, humanities, and technology is rebooting healthcare, pharma, and life sciences. What role will religion play?
We have our work cut out for us!
