Woke Pope Francis again affirmed a statement undermining unchangeable Catholic teaching, as he agreed that “transgenders” can be godparents and homosexual “parents” can have their children baptized.
It is, of course, impossible to change one’s biological sex, so “transgenderism” is not only a lie but a perverted attack on nature as God made it. Homosexuality is explicitly condemned as a grave sin in numerous Bible passages (see the latter half of this piece). The reason the Church always hesitated to baptize the children of homosexual “parents” is because baptism imposes a serious obligation to live up to the teachings of the Church. If the “parents” are homosexual, then the child will be raised by people who are not in accord with Biblical/Church teaching, and that is a serious problem (this same argument applies to “transgender” godparents). After all, Jesus indicated that baptized individuals are held to a higher standard (Matt. 13:12).
It is important to remember that the pope cannot change Church teaching just because he is the pope. Popes have every once in a great while supported heresy in the past since they are humans (infallibility only applies to certain pronouncements that meet certain requirements), and even the very first pope St. Peter, chosen by Jesus himself, was wrong in at least one instance in the Bible. LifeSiteNews reported more information Nov. 8:
“Pope Francis has approved a text drawn up by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández attesting that ‘transgender’ individuals can be godparents for the sacrament of Baptism, as well as allowing homosexual ‘parents’ to have their children baptized…
Taking the questions in order, Cardinal Fernández wrote that a ‘transsexual’ individual could receive Baptism with the same ease as any one else. Such a person, he wrote, ‘who had also undergone hormone treatment and sex reassignment surgery – can receive baptism, under the same conditions as other believers, if there are no situations in which there is a risk of generating public scandal or disorientation among the faithful’…Fernández approved the possibly of transgender individuals being witnesses at weddings.”
Again, homosexuality and transgenderism are explicitly and seriously in violation of Biblical/Church teaching. It is not kind and merciful to encourage people living in such a state of grave mortal sin to think that they can be just as good Christians as anyone else without changing their lifestyles. The truly loving and merciful thing to do would be to insist in all charity on their giving up a lifestyle of sin, that, according to the Bible, will send them to hell if they do not repent.
Below are explanations I have written before of the Biblical basis for condemning homosexuality and transgenderism:
From St. Paul:
Who changed the truth of God into a lie; and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God delivered them up to shameful affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use which is against nature. And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working that which is filthy, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error…Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them. —Romans 1:25-27, 32
St. Paul also addresses homosexuality in the First Letter to the Corinthians, when he says that those who practice certain sins cannot be part of the kingdom of God:
Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor the effeminate, nor liers with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor railers, nor extortioners, shall possess the kingdom of God. —1 Corinthians 6:9-10
This translation is accurate but can be a little confusing. To be clearer, the original Greek word being translated here as “liers with mankind,” ἀρσενοκοῖται, means literally “men engaged in sexual activity with the same sex.” So it would be equally accurate to translate ἀρσενοκοῖται as “homosexuals.”
Homosexuality is addressed in the Old Testament too. Leviticus 18:22 says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” The most famous Bible story about homosexuality is Sodom and Gomorrah. In Genesis 19, two angels visit Abraham’s nephew Lot in the disguise of men, to warn Lot that Sodom and Gomorrah — where he lives — will be destroyed for their sins. After a passage where a mob of men clearly demand homosexual intercourse,(Genesis 19:5ff—see Gen. 4:1 for linguistic context on “to know” as sexual) Lot and his family escape and Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed with “brimstone and fire” by the Lord God (Genesis 19:24). The older name for homosexuality is “sodomy” because of this Bible story.
Finally, the Old Testament makes it very clear that there are two sexes, not 700+ “genders.” The reality of male and female is based in the biology given by God, so it is wrong to mutilate oneself to try and alter that biological reality.
And [God] said: Let us make man to our image and likeness: and let him have dominion over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping creature that moveth upon the earth. And God created man to his own image: to the image of God he created him: male and female he created them. And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. —Genesis 1:26-28
Pope Francis needs to stop prioritizing Marxist, leftist politics over the teachings of Christ and Christ’s Church.
It appears from evidence that commercial and industry leaders are not woke, and going woke does not improve performance. It is now suggested that going woke is a strategy shaped by middle managers rather than owners. The situation appears different in the Church; both top and middle management are united in wokeness, handing out directives right down to the level of parish churches and schools. When the next pope is elected we will know how things stand if we re-commence singing Faith of Our Fathers.
If we get another Pope like Francis there will be no return to simple faiths in my lifetime.
Ps. A simple faith is not the faith of a simpleton.
Hold fast to the Lord and pray mightily for Pope Francis
