MARCH 1 — YOUNG BOY REUNITED WITH FAMILY AFTER SIX MONTHS
Recently, a four-year-old Peruvian child named Nicolas was reunited with his family after several months of uncertainty following his entry into the United States last year with his father.
Nicolas’ father returned to Peru for immigration reasons and entrusted Nicolas to relatives in the United States. However, several months later, Nicolas’ mother could not contact the relatives and reached out to the consulate to seek assistance in locating him and arranging his safe return to Peru.
With the diligent efforts of consular staff, Nicolas was located, and every possible resource was utilized to ensure his safe return to Peru. Consul General Liliana Trelles reached out to the National Assistance Branch of Peru's Foreign Ministry and the Association for Children and their Environment (ANIA) to facilitate the repatriation of the young boy. Moreover, the Peruvian community in the DFW area generously provided Nicolas with clothing, toys, shoes, and a tablet. On March 1, 2023, Nicolas safely traveled home with assistance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The consulate emphasizes the importance of American-Peruvian relations in facilitating the reunification of Nicolas with his family. It is heartwarming to see how collaboration and cooperation between the United States and Peru can lead to such positive outcomes.
MARCH 14 - CONSUL GENERAL VISITS DALLAS HOLOCAUST & HUMAN RIGHTS MUSEUM
In a recent visit to the Dallas Holocaust & Human Rights Museum, the Consul General took the opportunity to reaffirm the importance of promoting tolerance, empathy, and respect for human rights. The visit provided a platform for the Consul General to emphasize the need to learn from our history, in order to prevent future atrocities and promote global peace.
During the tour, the Consul General engaged in meaningful discussions with museum staff and local leaders about the ongoing challenges in fighting discrimination and prejudice. The visit to the museum, a powerful reminder of humanity's darkest moments, served as a crucial step in promoting dialogue and fostering a sense of shared responsibility for preserving the lessons of the past and building a more inclusive future.
MARCH 28 — PERUVIAN SUCCESSFULLY REPATRIATED AFTER MEDICAL EMERGENCY
The Peruvian, who has resided in the United States since the age of seventeen, suffered a severe stroke in November 2022, resulting in a two-month coma, and upon regaining consciousness, he was left unable to speak or move. Due to his lack of immediate family in the United States and inability to communicate his needs, his friends contacted the Consulate General of Peru in Dallas for assistance.
Upon being informed of this distressing situation, Consul General Liliana Trelles took prompt action by contacting the individual’s family in Peru to arrange for their travel to the United States, with the intention of obtaining the necessary guardianship. Regrettably, the family’s visa application was denied, leaving the injured Peruvian without a representative.
In response to the family’s request, the Consul General of Peru initiated the repatriation process. Coordination between multiple entities, including Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler and the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was required to secure guardianship and commence repatriation. I am pleased to inform you that the Peruvian citizen was successfully transported via air ambulance to Peru on March 28, 2023, following the completion of all required medical and immigration procedures. The Consulate General of Peru in Dallas is always pleased to assist and protect Peruvians abroad, and the consulate is happy to have resolved this challenging situation.
