Hi friends,
How is life treating you? Some of you may remember back in April I shared a post about some things I’m looking forward to, this year and beyond. One of the things on that list was an ‘exciting work project’ that I couldn’t talk about.
Well, I’ve now been given the green light to share a bit more about it, so let’s do just that.
The exciting work project is… a podcast! Happiful’s current podcast (I am. I have) came to an end recently and I will be creating a new podcast to take its place.
For those who have been following me for a while, you’ll know that I had my own podcast, Seedling, for a while. This was a space to talk all things self-worth, confidence and growth, and I was using it as a marketing tool for my confidence mentoring business.
When I made the decision to close my business, I knew I also wanted to stop my podcast. It took a lot of time and energy and, while I loved creating this kind of content, I knew that going back to full-time employment and not having a business to market would make it hard to justify.
So, when the opportunity came up at work for someone to head up the new Happiful podcast, I took a deep breath and put myself forward. This is a medium I love and I was excited at the prospect of using the skills I’d gained from making my own podcast.
This is, however, very different from what I’m used to. This podcast isn’t for/about me, it’s for a brand – and a well-loved, established brand at that.
The producer and host of the previous podcast was fantastic and built a loyal listenership. Stepping into this space therefore feels just a tad terrifying.
Whenever I’ve been working on the project, whether it’s putting together a concept proposal for the directors, planning episodes, having meetings about the launch… I’m giddy with excitement.
But when I stop to think about actually doing the podcast, chatting to guests, releasing episodes, seeing the reaction… I get a little spooked.
I know, however, it’s the good kind of spooked. The kind of spooked that tells you ‘you’re nudging your comfort zone’ and ‘you’re putting yourself out there’. And I think I know how to handle that kind of spooked (ironically, I have a podcast episode that talks about exactly this!).
There’s still a lot of work to be done before it launches, but I’m so pleased I can share a bit more with you now and keep you posted with the progress. It feels really nice to have a project like this to really sink my teeth into at work, something I can steer and mould.
I’d love to know, do you have anything work-wise you’re excited about at the moment? Let me know in the comments.
Until next time, take care.
Kat x
Great news, Kat! Loved your bite-sized Seedling episodes and, as someone developing their own podcast idea, can’t wait to see what you create 🤗
Ooh, this certainly does sound like the good kind of spooked - congratulations on your exciting new podcast adventure!
I'm enjoying having a bit of time to get creative with technologies in my job as a learning designer. I cloned my own voice the other day - the tone sounded like me but my vowels were switched to southern - I started off feeling offended at the erasure of my vaguely northern pronunication before I realised it was really rather a relief that a full clone isn't possible... yet.
