Charges were dropped against Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin for shooting and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his film “Rust” in 2021. “Rust” armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who Baldwin was reportedly responsible for hiring as the executive producer of the film and set boss, is still facing the same charges.
Hutchins’s widow settled with Baldwin last year in a wrongful death case brought against the actor while other members of Hutchins’s family filed a suit against him earlier this year.
Prosecutors accused Baldwin of missing firearms training sessions and when he did attend, it was only for 30 minutes and he spent the time on his phone instead of paying attention. They stated that despite Baldwin’s insistence that he didn’t pull the trigger, photos and video of him on set the day of show his finger in the trigger guard.
Baldwin has long viciously advocated against the Second Amendment, even once accusing me of “stepping over dead bodies” for my support of self defense and firearm ownership. Unlike Baldwin, I’ve never shot and killed someone and I’d wager that no members of any gun rights organizations have, either.
If every law-abiding gun owner is somehow responsible for the murderous actions of criminals then surely Baldwin is responsible for shooting and killing the woman that he shot and killed.
Elsewhere in the country, people who defend themselves when physically attacked are charged with murder.
In Baldwin’s case, it’s (D)ifferent.
