Joe Biden immediately called for a new “assault weapons” ban while remarking on the shooting at a Christian elementary school in Nashville that left six dead, not including the murderer.
White House Spokesperson Karine Jean Pierre claimed the GOP’s inaction on banning semi-auto rifles is killing children:
First, let’s address Biden’s claim that the “assault weapons” ban is needed or even worked, ever. The Department of Justice studied the effect that the “assault weapons” ban had on homicide and found there was no evidence that the ban had any impact on gun homicide rates at all. A Journal of General Internal Medicine study concluded that the “assault weapons” ban had no impact on gun homicide rates. The RAND Corporation concluded (with updates earlier this year) that an “assault weapons” ban would have no impact on reducing gun homicide rates. The New York Times published a thorough deep dive on “assault weapons” and came to the same conclusion.
I wrote on this subject for Newsweek nearly a year ago:
McConaughey has previously called for an "assault weapons" ban—that is, a ban on commonly-owned semiautomatic rifles. Perhaps after reading the RAND Corporation's 2020 study, which found no conclusive evidence that the ban reduced crime (a similar Department of Justice (DOJ) study concluded the same, along with Politifact) he retooled his position, calling this week only for a waiting period in order to purchase an "assault weapon."
The facts remain the same: Banning commonly-owned semi-automatic rifles responsible for the fewest homicides annually does nothing to reduce overwhelming firearm-related homicide brought on by drug and gang violence.
Concerning mass casualty tragedies, law enforcement routinely reveal that suspects were “known” to their agencies — Pulse Nightclub, Parkland, Sandy Hook, Uvalde, there isn’t an exception amongst these tragedies. We can’t talk about why this significant fact goes unacknowledged by the press and Democrats, they’re too busy demonizing anyone who supports the Second Amendment while yelling “do something,” which always and only means more gun control. The left and Democrat officials oppose school resource officers — but they have no problem being protected by guns when they go to concerts or the Capitol.
Most of the people lamenting the presence of SROs have no idea that more often than not, wherever they go, they themselves are protected by people with guns.
Most of the people lamenting the presence of SROs have no idea that more often than not, wherever they go, they themselves are protected by people with guns. When they go to a concert, they’re protected by people with guns. When they’re at the football game, the soccer match, the baseball game, they’re protected by people with guns. When they go to the bank, they’re protected by people with guns. A mall. A jewelry store. When they get on a plane they’re protected by people with guns. Just the other day when I went to see “John Wick 4” there was a security officer present and I was carrying my Glock. Everyone in the theater was protected by guns.
Many of the people who compare SROs to jailers have no clue that they’re surrounded by guns nearly every day. Do they think that going to a concert or to any of the things I mentioned previously are the same as going to jail?
No.
Have the discussion in your school about the most effective way to protect kids without turning SROs into disciplinarians, but harden soft targets. There is too much evil in this world — and too much accommodation of criminality — to leave our children’s security to chance, or an unlocked side door, like in Uvalde.
As for KJP’s remark — her comment is grotesque and nonsensical. It begs the question that “assault weapons” bans work, which, as I’ve demonstrated, they do not. If Democrats really believe this anyway I wonder why they didn’t take the opportunity to pass one when they controlled both the Senate and the House, in addition to the White House? They only seem to pretend to care about initiative when they lack the power to do it.
The question then becomes: How many more children must be murdered because politicians in DC and their surrogate news markets are too terrified to talk about the types of mental illness that induce violence?
The question then becomes: How many more children must be murdered because politicians in DC and their surrogate news markets are too terrified to talk about the types of mental illness that induce violence? How many children must be murdered by opioid addiction before Democrats are willing to close the border and get serious about the cartels? How many more children must be murdered under the auspices of “women’s health” by taxpayer-funded slush fund Planned Parenthood? How many children must be murdered by mentally ill individuals whose warning signs went unheeded for years, months, weeks by law enforcement or members of the individual’s own family that failed to act? Warning signs that don’t require reducing Fourth Amendment protections to act upon?
The press has already started:
Moran victim-blames here as he insinuates that the grown transgender adult murderer hate-targeted a Christian school in an act of domestic terror because Tennessee prohibited medically unnecessary surgery for healthy minors.
Unbelievable.
Please keep the community, the school, and especially the families of these victims in your prayers: Evelyn Dieckhaus, 9; Hallie Scruggs, 9; William Kinney 9; Cynthia Peak, 61; Katherine Koonce, 60; Mike Hill, 61.
Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, woke satanic deviants, all label us and the law abiding with the descriptions they themselves embody. They are guilty of every sin they try to foist on others. WHO here is shocked a Democrat homosexual shot up a Christian school?
OMG, still beating a dead horse of Assault weapons ban aka semi-auto ban. Again, I'll say this, how can a tool a thing be crucified for doing something it physically incapable of doing.
Seems like someone wants the American people unarmed for a reason...
