Nikki Haley Invites Disney to Relocate to SC, Says Florida is "Sanctimonious"
Running to the Left of DeSantis Won't Work
Why do Republicans do this to themselves?
Nikki Haley joined the left, Asa Hutchinson, and the Trump campaign today by claiming that Florida is “sanctimonious” over woke Disney.
One of the reasons why Disney is such an economic powerhouse is partly due to the special accommodations it received by previous lawmakers that allowed it to skirt restrictions other corporations were expected to follow under threat of penalty. The Reedy Creek Improvement District was established to oversee Disney yet Disney controlled the Reedy Creek Improvement District. From Jonathan Turley:
Technically, the board was elected by those living on the Disney property, which amounts to a small number of people living among the “cast members.”
It was a breathtaking deal for the company, which set its own building standards, granted its own construction permits and determined the scope of services, building codes, waste collection and other infrastructure matters.
Outside of the Vatican, such self-governance is little more than a fantasy for companies and organizations.
It was when Disney chose to use its economic power, leverage granted to it through the Reedy Creek Improvement District, to wage war on parents in Florida, that its favored status was revoked — something DeSantis and Florida lawmakers were entirely justified to do, Turley argues.
In order to differentiate themselves from an potential DeSantis run, declared primary candidates are choosing to run to the left of him on this issue by bizarrely claiming that removing Disney’s anti-capitalist accommodation is big government and that criticizing the Magic Kingdom’s insistence on fighting parents for control of their children’s classrooms is “sanctimonious.”
Maybe Haley wants that Disney donor money:
Haley previously took umbrage at the suggestion that she was running for VP — after her remarks today so closely mirroring those of another primary campaign, it makes you wonder if the lady doth protest too much.
TO ADD:
Here is an informative thread about Reedy Creek if you want to skip pages and pages of write-ups.
Also — I have no idea why people are trying to position themselves around DeSantis when the dude hasn’t even announced. Candidates should focus on their conservative accomplishments, of which they have many to brag about, not this. WHO IS ADVISING THESE PEOPLE?
Lastly — Don’t forget that Florida Democrats supported the Parental Rights in Education bill that Disney railed against. I know Haley was trying to be code-word cute with her use of “sanctimonious” here, but what a way to misread this room.
Like Dana said earlier, she's playing for Trump's Veep -
She was never going to be a legitimate contender for either President or Vice President. She may as well pack it in now.
