SITDE #147: How I Use The LEMME Exercise To π Into A New Year
How I Use the LEMME Exercise to π Into a New Year
(no. 147)Β
Welcome to the 11Β people who've joined the Deep End Movement since last Wednesday.
If you like what I'm serving up each week, share this lifeletter with a friend.
So, allegedly it's autumn...π§
WheneverΒ the leaves decide to change in Austin, you may catch me frolicking in a park .Β π πΊπΏ π
This is also the time of the year when my bride asks, "Are you about to go into your cave?".
My response:
I'm a sucker for some Q4 deep work on my business.
This is the time to put the pieces in place for massive 2023 gains. In the spirt of growth, I'm sharing one of my favorite business practices.
Let's get on it.Β ππΎββοΈ
The LEMME Exercise
Ruthless prioritization calls for a constant pruning of one's schedule.
LEMME stands for:
Less
Eliminate
More
Microwin
Execute
Here's how it works. ππΎ
Take a task and ask yourself 5οΈβ£ questions:
1) Should I be doing LESS of this?
Consideration: Is this activity depleting me while helpingΒ my business?
2) Should I ELIMINATE this?
Consideration: Is this activity net beneficial to my business?
3) Should I be doing MORE of this?
Consideration: Does this activity lightΒ me up andΒ stimulateΒ myΒ growth?
4) What MICROWINΒ helps me to achieve βπΎ?
Consideration: What's the next small move?
5) What's the plan toΒ EXECUTEΒ on the microwin?Β
Consideration: With a bias toward massive action, commit to a:Β 1) date, 2) person and 3) directive.Β
In the example above, I identified video-editing as an activity that eats up a lot of time (reviewing clips, correcting captions, etc.).
It's beneficial for my speaking business but it depletes me.
So, I decided to hire away the function to my eldest.
He is already a subcontractor to my LLC (there's a massive tax benefit here, but that's an entirely different lifeletter), so I decided to train him last Sunday for this task.
To date, he's reviewed nearly 20 clips for which he gets paid π° per clip.
It's a win-win:
1) He gets paid
2) I get my time back and
3) The business keeps moving
The Takeaways
This is a simple exercise but only works if you'reΒ honest andΒ consistent.
Days turn into weeks...
Weeks turn into months...
Months turn into years...
And you'll still be complaining about something you could have solved a decade ago.
Things don't get better unless you get consistent.
Motivation comes with an expiration date. Consistency is non-perishable. β¬
