Wow. What a night!
Democracy won…BIG time..in Ohio.
So much to analyze and so much to learn.
But the biggest lesson out of the gate is YOUR activism makes all the difference. From near and far, every door knock, every phone call, every postcard, every dollar…all of it!…were part of last night’s big win. And you answered the call every time we asked for more!
I saw and sensed it building since May, and I felt it peaking over the last few days. A broad coalition, across all divides, coming together to stand up for democracy.
Just look at these photos of my “No on Issue 1” tour of the last week. I wish you all could’ve been there with me: Blue counties firing away on all cylinders. And then, in red county after red county, activists showing up with passion and numbers. Speaking truth to power, even if outnumbered (or, it turns out in many of them, not outnumbered after all!)
And last night, those Blue counties blew Issue 1 out of the water. And many of the very red counties where I saw so much energy in recent days rejected Issue 1 outright (including Greene and Portage counties, pictured above). Others cut the margin by so much, our big blue margins were able to carry the day.
And then 800 or so of you watched LIVE as we celebrated the results together. Wow, again!
This was a true 88-county victory, fueled by activists from across Ohio and across the country.
I’ll be sharing a lot more analysis in the coming days, but for now, just wanted to share a big THANK YOU.
WE did it!
Now it’s time to go on offense! More on that in the coming days and weeks.
David
Congratulations from NC. We donated and phonebanked with Ohio Dems in the last month and every live I watched on pro democracy YT channels I posted ‘ Ohio Vote No Issue 1’ repeatedly in the chats. Thanks to David talking to Simon Rosenberg’s Hopium Substack community! I was on that call last night, what a BEAUTIFUL FEELING in Ohio shared by so many outside your state. Let’s ride this wave of pro democracy across the country with Blue grassroots organizing!
Looks like Pepper may need to run for office again! Bravo & thank you from New Mexico!
