Making Sense of the Chaos. Part Nineteen
The Forever Warriors vs. the Fundamental Transformers.
It’s fascinating: that is, I find my own behavior fascinating. I keep coming back to this series, Making Sense of the Chaos, because everything new that happens soon appears to be just more chaos until the same old pattern emerges from the murk.
And what is that pattern? In past posts to this series I’ve called it The Deep State vs. The Preachers of Woke.
And what is the new thing? It’s the Israel-Hamas War. It’s not over yet, and of course it’s going to drag on, but it will not end anytime soon. Churchill once said of the Second World War, something like this:
It may not be the beginning of the end, but it might be the end of the beginning.
As for the Israel-Hamas War, I am going to push my luck and say that we are already at the beginning of the end.
We are not, however, anywhere near the end of the end of the Israel-Hamas War.
Why not? Because the Forever Warriors want this war to go on forever.
Let’s have a historical look at the Forever Warriors and see how they got that way.
First of all, their self-interest is not the destruction of the United States of America, but the perpetuation of the status quo of a powerful United States of America.
And what is that status quo?
Is it to engage in a nuclear war with an enemy of the USA? Absolutely not.
Is it to bury the hatchet, beat the swords into plowshares, and make a lasting peace? Absolutely not.
Is it to keep one or more wars simmering on a back burner, which means not on the sovereign territory of the USA, for as long as possible? Yes.
Ukraine served that purpose, but the Israel-Hamas war serves it even better.
But what’s in it for the Forever Warriors to have a Forever War going on forever?
Money, from weapons development and arms sales.
Prestige for the highly placed bureaucrats of the USA, as they can boast of progress here, progress there as long as there is a war going on in which progress can be made.
Job security, because it’s politically risky to shuffle bureaucracies when there’s a war going on.
And how do these Forever Warriors keep the Israel-Hamas War going on forever?
They can support the losing side through treaties and military alliances. Example: Qatar, the Arab nation which funds Hamas and shelters the leaders of Hamas, also hosts a US air base.
They can let the Other Guys do the dirty work for them.
The Other Guys? Who are these Other Guys?
I’ve written about them before, calling them the Preachers of Woke. Today I am giving them another nickname: the Fundamental Transformers.
Do the Forever Warriors of the Deep State want the total destruction of the USA? No, because such a thing would mean their own destruction.
But what about the Fundamental Transformers? Do they want the total destruction of the USA? I believe that they do. Why? Because they hate the USA and everything it stands for and everything it has ever stood for. The hate the USA because for the Preachers of Woke it’s principle over practicality. In fact, it can be called religious zeal.
Religious?
The Preachers of Woke do not worship a traditional deity, whether in Heaven or Mount Olympus, or in Hades, or in trees, rivers, or seas. Who is, then the god of the Preachers of Woke? Some say it is big government, some say it is a vision of a Heaven on Earth where we all own nothing and are happy. There is good evidence that the Preachers of Woke want both. I will add my two cents to the issue by making this statement:
The god that the Preachers of Woke truly worship is themselves.
In my never-humble opinion, to a Preacher of Woke, there is no higher god than himself, herself, or theirself. The Greeks called that level of arrogance hubris, and I plan to write more about hubris some time, but right now let’s look at the battle between the Deep State (aka the Forever Warriors) and the Preachers of Woke (aka the Fundamental Transformers.)
Fundamental Transformation, in my never-humble opinion, is a code phrase for the total destruction of the USA.
In what way could Woke preaching benefit the Deep State Forever Warriors? It’s simple: whenever things get too close to an end of a war, Forever Warriors back off on their resistance to the Preachers of Woke, allow them to preach for something destructive, and maybe get a little bit of what they want. That keeps the war going.
In the current conflict, the Israel-Hamas War, the Deep State can always let the Preachers of Woke push for a hostage exchange, a humanitarian pause of some kind, a suggestion that maybe the Palestinian Authority can play Princes of Peace and calm the troubled water. That keeps the war going, and when the going gets tough, the Deep State Forever Warriors will say it’s time to push back against the Preachers of Woke.
Those of you, however, who have read this series, Making Sense of the Chaos, before, will recall that my template for understanding current politics is the political battlefield of the French Revolution, in which there were three factions: the Clergy, the Aristocracy, and Everybody Else. It was that third faction, Everybody Else, who stormed the Bastille in 1789.
In 2023, at the end of the year when I am writing this, I view the Preachers of Woke as the new Clergy, the missionaries who want to stamp out Judaism, Christianity, and other theistic religions and replace their worship with the idolatry of DEI, ESG, and the World Economic Forum.
I also view the Deep State bureaucracy, the Forever Warriors, as the contemporary replacement for the titled aristocracy of the Old Regime in France. Instead of titles like king, duke, marquis, and baron, the Forever Warriors have security clearances.
And there was that third slice of society back in 1789, the one whom I called, today, Everybody Else.
That’s me, and that’s you.
And to you, and to me, I hope we will have the courage to live life in spite of the Preachers of Woke, the Fundamental Transformers, the Deep State, the Forever Warriors— and will have a happy new year.
Brilliant. Kindly, see what you think about my latest piece. Happy Neu Year!
