Welcome to the eleventh instalment of my “A Changing Frame of Reference” series. If you read my last piece, “Coffee in a Teacup,” thank you. In it I wrote of a dream and meeting a certain English gentleman who went by the name Gordon. Gordon’s last name, which I didn’t disclose, was Sumner, and to the world he is better known as the most prominent member of band, The Police. Sting.
Oddly enough, I’ve had dreams of meeting and talking to many celebrities over the years including Wayne Gretzky, Keifer Sutherland, and Geddy Lee, to name a few. My friends have all chuckled about this at one time or another. In truth, I may only have met one famous person in real life—Darryl Sittler; a past and much adored captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. I met him at a corporate function and was impressed with his friendly genuineness. In general, however, I have avoided meeting my heroes for the disappointment that such an occasion may bring me as they are after all only people too. But apparently my unconscious has no such misgivings. The story I gave you last time was very much the kind of interaction that takes place in my dreams.
