My previous post, “Sea Change,” was a Christmas story, which I hope you liked.
The story combined a few experiences which had happened in my life. In years past, my son did invite one of his young school friends and her mother to our Christmas morning. He loved Christmas and when he learned that his friend didn’t do Christmas morning, decided to invite her. They did come to our house Christmas morning. Also, the tree ornament of a shell house is real too. We still have it. My wife and I bought the house in university, before we were married, to go in the home we dreamed of having some day. The title, “Sea Change,” was suggested by my wife. A term that came from William Shakespeare’s The Tempest designating changes that came through actions of the sea. In The Tempest, Ariel, a spirit, speaks to Ferdinand the prince, telling him that his father has perished in a shipwreck. The expression has come to denote a substantial change in perspective, which is not only what the story is about but also in line with my series here on Substack, “A Changing Frame of Reference.”
