As part of my continuing journey through the Bible, I joined a six-week study of Galatians. I’ve been hesitant to jump ahead to other books of the Bible as I’m doing my best to read them in the order they’ve been placed. As of this writing, I’m in Chapter 6 of Amos of the Old Testament. It seems the farther I go, the slower I get, and the more I want to read and understand; there’s so much there. The books in the Bible were assembled in this way for a reason. I don’t know the reason yet other than those putting it together believed it was the way the Almighty wanted His story told. In jumping ahead, I’m beginning to see how the Old Testament provides historical context out of which the New Testament emerged. The books of the New Testament don’t supersede the Old Testament but are inextricably linked with it. There always seems to be another level as well, whether deeper or simpler, to understand. But as opportunity arises, like this Galatians study, I’ve decided to adjust my rigour of orderliness, and be more spontaneous.
