The success of this book lays out our ability to be ahead of schedule for future titles! So! I hope you check it out :) If not, I hope I get you on the next :)
Why Western Genre Comics?
Well a couple reasons. (1) I’ve been watching the TV show Yellowstone and have been really enjoying it. Now, it’s not totally a western, more like a gritty crime drama that has cowboys and indians in it. I’m only on the second season, but so far it’s a blast.
(2) I was playing with this Fischer Price toy with my boys this weekend. Man! I had these toys growing up and I played with them until I was like 15.
I had them all! The Western set, Robin Hood set, Pirate set, Castle set, even the island and dragon set. These were a blast. When I saw someone selling all the sets, I immediately bought them for my kids and they love them.
I honestly believe that a reason why I love storytelling so much is because of these toys. The amount of adventures I went on, all the conflicts various factions and characters had, all helped me learn how to craft stories and ultimately have fun.
SO! I’m dying to read some good Western Genre comics/manga. If you have some, give them to me :)
NEW COMIC - SAMURAI PENGUIN BLADE!
Sometimes miracles happen, and that’s exactly what happened with a book called SAMURAI PENGUIN BLADE. Originally I wanted to draw this series myself, but then I got to busy with other books.
I then found an artist that took interest in the series. However, after 2 pages of work, they bailed. I realized that maybe the story was to ambitious for a series, and although I had enough content for it, that maybe it would be better as a one-shot. I hired another artist to work on it, and then they bailed on it 3-pages in. So. I just left it to die.
That’s until artist Donal Delay came in and said that he wanted to be part of the project. So. We made a deal, and now this book is finally happening!
This is going to be a 24-page ONE SHOT story about a man trying to get through space and time to save his family from being kidnapped by his enemies in the future.
Luckily we fit in a LOT in this story, because, well….we have to. When you’re doing a 24-page one shot, you have to skip around and only showcase the most important details of the story in order to convey what they end goal is.
This is a truly fun collaboration. Donal and I are both writer/artists, and he has allowed me to thumbnail every page, and then he’ll work his magic over them. For 2 page however I totally just left them blank and said “go for it!”
I don’t know if this will be a straight-to-sale comic, or if we’ll do a Kickstarter for it, but regardless, it’s being worked on right now and I’m thrilled :)
Thanks everyone! I’ll keep y’all updated on everything!
Peace!
Tyler :)
Well if you don't mind the mainstream works too much, a good place to check out are the two most popular works of the Western genre in that regard: Jonah Hex(comics) and Trigun(manga).
The two that I know of that come highly regarded is SIX-GUN GORILLA and OCTOPUS COWBOY.
