Yikes. People Are Quitting Every Single Day in Comics...
Bullet Assassin Living in a Fantasy World As TWO weeks left!
Hey peeps! Today I want to talk about the indie comics community landscape and why creators are dropping like flies, as well as show you something cool I did this week. If you’re curious the status of various projects, make sure to scroll to the bottom.
ALSO! Bullet Assassin Living in a Fantasy World #1 has 10 more days left on Kickstarter! Make sure to check this out as this is the FINAL book we’re launching this year :)
Why Creators Are Quitting Comics and Dropping Like Flies…
Making comics is hard both mentally, emotionally, and physically. I won’t lie to you and say I’ve never thought about just quitting comics, because I have, even quite recently. These are the reasons why people typically do:
Physically: There is a lot of time spent both writing and drawing these stories. The toll that it can take on your body can be destructive, and the time that you invest to write these stories sometimes feels squandered when you have nothing to show for the work that you’ve put in.
Mentally: There are two types of creators: those who make comics for fun, and those who want to make money and have readers. Everyone pretends that they are the first, until they realize no one is reading their stuff and they’re not making any money. Now it’s a mental game of passion vs business. How much effort are you willing to put in to get readers? How much effort are you willing to put in to build an audience?
Emotionally: Once you’ve invested time, energy, and money into creating a comic, and then have won the mental gymnastics of realizing that you as a creator actually want readers and an audience, now it’s time to see results. When the results however come back negative in terms of feedback or even monetarily, it is gut wrenching. In fact…it can truly be heartbreaking. The question is, how much heartbreak can you take before you start telling yourself your time would be better spent doing something else?
The fact is, most creators aren’t going to make it. And that’s fine. Most actors trying to get into Hollywood won’t make it. The fact is, anything in the “entertainment” industry is going to be difficult and only a few people will succeed.
I honestly believe that I’m on the final years of my time in this world and that I am holding onto a thread. SO. I’m going to make the most of it.
Check this out. Last week I started a NEW Youtube channel in order to build a new audience that I can get into my various series. These are the results so far:
It’s been a lot of work but I enjoying this. I’m hoping that building a new channel like this one will help me stay in the game of comics even longer. But even then, I understand that I’m prolonging the inevitable.
At some point, I’ll probably stop making comics. That could be in a one year, 5 years, or 10 years down the road. I don’t know.
So one thing that I’m doing RIGHT NOW is making the most of it. I’m having fun, I’m having a silly goose time, and I’m telling the stories that I want to tell and sharing them with as many people as I can.
So I want to say, Thank you for following me in this journey and being there with me.
Let me know what I can do more for you, and I’ll see what I can do :)

Thanks so much! Y’all are freaking awesome. If I can leave you with ONE reading suggestion, it’s SAKAMOTO DAYS. A retired hitman who runs a grocery store has his past come back to find him. However, his wife has given him one rule: no killing, otherwise divorce! Great writing and amazing art!
Peace!
Tyler :)
