NGT | Environmental Concerns Heighten Amidst Allegations of Illegal Sand Mining Against Sri Sai Constructions
NGT Eastern Zone Constitutes Committee to Investigate Violations in Sand Mining and Unauthorized Transportation Case
Mining, especially sand mining, has consistently raised environmental concerns. Sri Sai Constructions faces allegations of engaging in illegal sand mining, contravening the Sustainable Sand Mining Management Guidelines of 2016. The reported violations are said to occur in the Kusei Sand Bed Deogaon, covering an expanse of 11.50 acres or 4.654 hectares in Deogaon Village within the Ghasipura Tahasil of Keonjhar District, Odisha.
Amidst the deep engagement of Indians in the celebration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, symbolizing the ideal rule or governance depicted in Hindu mythology, particularly in the context of Lord Rama's rule as described in the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana, an applicant has approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Eastern Zone Bench. The allegation pertains to Sri Sai Constructions violating conditions related to the unauthorized transportation of heavily loaded vehicles through a village road. This development occurs concurrently with UltraTech Cement's initiative to introduce electric trucks for clinker transportation, aiming to reduce pollution, and a Forest Regional Empowered Committee permitting forest land diversion to minimize environmentally detrimental transportation.
