NGT | Status of Tackling Tyre Pyrolysis Pollution
The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change has filed a comprehensive compliance report to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the matter of Execution Application No. 39/2023 in Original Application No. 400/2019, involving Social Action for Forest & Environment (SAFE) versus Union of India & Ors.
The NGT, in its order dated 07.11.2022, directed the closure of non-compliant units until prompt compliance is achieved. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) was instructed to finalize the classification of units for the enforcement of application norms. Additionally, the revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the recycling of waste tyre scrap has been updated, incorporating findings from an extensive study of Tyre Pyrolysis Oil Units (TPO Units).
