It's past time for you to take the direction of your life, be the protagonist of your own story, and assume the responsibilities and consequences of your choices. In other words, stop depending on other people's opinions to do, perform and execute. Are you in your 30s, 40s, or 50s? How long will you wait?
Don't give me the story that there's no time, that there's no more age. For as far as I know, you are not intending to die tomorrow. So yes, there's time to get moving and step out of the audience, where you watch your life go by. Besides, I have experience with this, mainly because I was waiting for others to do what was my responsibility. When will you begin to assume your responsibilities? Now is the time to be the protagonist of your story.

5 Tips that will help you be the protagonist of your own story
Being the protagonist of your own story means that you are the central character and driving force of your own life experiences, decisions, and journey. It means taking ownership of your life and seeing yourself as the hero of your narrative, rather than being a passive observer or victim of circumstances. As well, it involves setting your own goals and actively shaping your destiny, rather than letting outside factors determine your path.
Take ownership of your actions;
Focus on your strengths;
Setting clear goals is essential to being the protagonist of your story;
Go your own way;
Celebrate your successes and learn from your failures.
The five tips above will by no means solve all your problems and don't think they will get you where you want to go, because they won't. There are many more things involved, including luck itself. Now, truth be told, competence and constancy do much more than a stroke of luck. In other words, the five tips are a guide for you to start taking the direction of your life. Doing what the heart tells you, but without letting reason abandon you.
These are the first steps for you to get off your ass and take definitive control of your journey from now on. But, again, it is necessary to say the obvious here: do not expect facilities. On the contrary, keep it clear in your mind that if you are where you are, it is your sole and exclusive responsibility. Now, it's time to see if you want to change or stay the way you are. And if you want, that's fine.

1) Take ownership of your actions and be responsible for your choices
It is necessary to ask yourself some questions, among them, what is your purpose? In a simplistic analogy, it's that story of planting a tree, having a child, and writing a book so that life has been full.
In parts yes, in parts no. But it's having the clarity of what actions you are taking to carry out and make your choices happen. As repetitive as it may be, especially for those who read other texts I wrote (or articles, to be fancier), I said that it took more than 20 years to understand that it was writing, effectively, that makes my eyes shine.
I always flirted with her, like the desire to lose weight. But what was I doing to accomplish all of this? Nothing. The day I understood that the consequences for succeeding or not were all mine, I had two choices: continue the way I was or take ownership of the necessary actions to make it happen. However, being aware, assuming was an obligation.
2) Focus on your strengths and don't be afraid to take risks
You can stop now! It doesn't come with victimism saying that you don't have strength, that nobody loves you and nobody wants you. Furthermore, this speech is mine and I do not authorize anyone to use it. I try to get rid of it every day.
You do have strengths and they will probably be closely linked to your life purpose. So enjoy and use them wisely and above all, risk without fear.
Reflect and observe the amount of missed opportunities because the fear of not was much greater than taking chances. Two things: assume that you already have what you don't have and, as far as possible, don't generate high expectations, because the chance of being disappointed is lower.
3) Setting clear goals is essential to being the protagonist of your story
Goals are as necessary as the air you breathe. What's more, if you intend to change your status quo. And if you don't know where you are or where you want to go, how will you be aware of what you need to do?
Here is that moment when you should sit down and put on paper, even if randomly, what you intend and what are ideas to get there. Once that's done, start refining until you have a plan of action.
Expectations come in here again, don't raise them so much, as very daring goals are excellent for great frustration down the road. So, grab your pen and paper, roll up your sleeves, and start working on your happiness.
4) Go your own way and be true to yourself
Remember that it's your responsibility. That is, do what needs to be done to start accomplishing and conquering what life has in store for you. It's the moment when being the protagonist of your own story starts to make perfect sense.
Cultivate self-awareness and mindfulness to stay grounded and connected to your inner self, and your purpose. Also, connecting with supportive and positive people is extremely important and they can help you in this self-challenge, but without ever forgetting that the dream is yours, the work and the sweat are yours too.
Remember that following your path takes effort and dedication, but staying true to yourself and pursuing what matters can bring immense satisfaction and fulfillment to your life.
5) Celebrate your successes and learn from your failures
The journey is made up of several stages, of days - some good and others not so much - and it is from these moments that you must learn the greatest lessons. Don't be ashamed of what you had to do, how many times you had to get up from a stumbling block, shake off the dust and go back in the direction of your goal. Also, don't be sad if you have to make changes along the way.
Praise is good, it strokes our ego and shows that we are going in the right direction. Celebrate yes, with each applause received because it has the same validity if it is from a person or an entire audience. However, never let pride get to your head and cover up humility in learning from your failures.
Receive criticism the same way you receive praise, with the modesty of those who still have a lot to learn. In addition, the more you know, the greater your responsibility to stay focused on what you want in life.
Fell, get up
As long as there is life running through your veins, a heart beating inside your chest is the greatest demonstration that you have complete freedom to modify what is no longer making you happy. Don't be afraid to change, don't be afraid to assume your role.
Don't leave for tomorrow what you can do now! Embrace opportunities and be the protagonist of your own story, not for others, but for yourself. Take risks and don't be shy about chasing your dreams. Also, leave a comment below telling what you think and what you will do to change your story.

I am in a bit of a winter slump right now. I am taking a break from writing to organize a local Indie authors event in two weeks, which will be a new experience for me, doing both readings and book sales. After that goal is completed, I will decide my next goal.
