One by One Letting Go
This teaching is difficult to swallow. The reason is we want to fulfill our desires. We do not want to let them go. We continuously seek satisfaction only to find the world and its promises lead to dukkha -suffering. But even suffering does not seem to turn us around and let go.
The problem underlying this ignorant attempt at satisfaction is our ignorance of the reality of impermanence.
I recently had someone say to me, “Please do not tell me anything about impermanence.”
They did not want to inhibit their desires for satisfaction. The person wanted to remain in an “ignorance is bliss” state. They want to remain unaware of their true situation. They want to manage their mind states with unawareness as a child does. Pretending and imagining something in the world, a person, a place, or a thing that they believe to be real. They believe and fantasize that whatever they want will satisfy their hunger.
Very few want to purify the mind of tendencies and habits that keep them ignorant.
We dismiss the human condition and invent a sham persona, not realizing all personas are constructed from conditioning and are make-believe. This leads to a refusal to see the tendencies and habitual patterns as an identity. This identification prevents the possibility of self-realization.
So, the following images are an encouragement and a way to remember. A picture is worth a thousand words.
These are offered to break through our constructed wall of who and what we think we are.
Let go of clinging to the body and mind.
Let go of sensual desires of every kind. Desires slaughter us.
Let go of indulgence of flesh in all forms.
Beware of the deadly power and let it be.
