Making Better Mistakes
One of the most powerful and painful things we can do is to make our errors visible. Anyone who has ever heard themselves speak or watched themselves run is aware of this. Even areas where we might feel particularly smooth can be rough to review when it’s not in real time. When we step out of our first person view and observe ourselves from an outside perspective, it’s easy to spot mistakes.
Once we remember that nobody is perfect, even the greatest athletes, we see that our past missteps can become our path to progress.
I love when athletes come in to do running form analysis because it always gives them something to work on. There is no perfect running form, but there are inefficiencies that can more easily lead to injury. Addressing a few of these “mistakes” can help us handle a higher training load on a more consistent basis.
