The family of Shubael Austin Lincoln of Vermont, Ohio, and Michigan
This branch of the Lincoln family moved around quite a bit for the time period. Shubael Austin Lincoln was born in Randolph, Vermont, in 1805. His father was Shubael Lincoln of Windham, Connecticut, his mother Mary Ellis of Keene, New Hampshire. The family traveled through New York before Shubael the elder opened a mill in Ohio. After their father’s death, Shubael Austin and his brother became some of the founders of Kalamazoo, Michigan. It’s there that, before the end of his life, Shubael Austin had his mother re-interred, which made the papers in a heart-wrenching narrative.
Here’s a snapshot of his life.
