Black Mouth Cur
Let me tell you a tail from yesteryear.
Probably 2008ish.
I had only been at my job at the animal shelter for about 2 years. Just a babe in the woods.
Back in those days the animal control officers, vet techs, and staff all shared a running joke. Only four types of dogs ever came into the shelter.
Shepherd mixes.
Terrier mixes.
Lab mixes.
And Chihuahua mixes.
One time an ACO found a book of dog breeds in the bargain bin at a local bookstore.
They would show it off and within a day or two would bring in new breeds we haven't heard of or even seen before (My tongue is firmly planted in my cheek).
If any stray had even a penny-sized speck of black on their muzzle: *POOF* It's a Black Mouth Cur! And strangely enough the next few weeks we had many Black Mouth Curs appear.
In the following weeks any dog coming in with a gray or blue coat was designated a Blue Lacy.
If any dogs with particularly thick coats along their spine appeared, they were designated Rhodesian Ridgebacks. If any new dog's tail were in some way curly, it was obviously a Basenji.
This went on for months. Didn't harm anyone and it kept everyone sane but management finally noticed and made us stop when they were adamant the newest Black Mouth Cur was actually a Belgian Malinois.
