Newsletter 001
Welcome to the first of who knows how many of these, i might do them monthly, quarterly or whenever i feel like to let go of my ramblings.
First of all, please subscribe to the
newsletter, they’ll publish a piece that i recently wrote about Echo Chamber soonish and this will be the only place for now (maybe ever online) where you can read it. I mean i do want to print a bunch for the upcoming Down But Not Out takeover but that’s gonna be it.Speaking of the Down But Not Out takeover…make sure to catch Echo Chamber, Face Your Fears, Force Of Denial, Mortal Form and Reflex on the following dates:
March 15th at Le Cobra Jaune in Brussels, Belgium
Echo Chamber, Instructor, Force Of Denial, Face Your Fears and Force
March 16th at Sz Flafla in Herford, Germany
Echo Chamber, Force Of Denial, Mortal Form and Reflex
I honestly can’t wait to return to Brussels and Cobra Jaune. I’ve only been there once while doing merch for Echo Chamber but this was such a fun time. The city gave me straight up some NYC vibes and seems to be a time capsule of the 90s here and there. The show being at the infamous Cobra Jaune is just the icing on the cake, looking very much forward to see Instructor there (just look at the cover art for ‘Terror Zone’ and you know what’s up).
Stuff i recently enjoyed on the tube:
Face Your Fears - Hannover Hardcore - R.I.P. Halloween Mosh
There are new songs coming, who knows how soon.
Down But Not Out Records with another great pick for their roster, just expect some kind of New Age Records sound i guess. After travelling to Padova, Italy for the 100% Of 100% Hardcore fest i wanted to see another Seed Of Pain show on their short euro run with Magnitude. This show in Bochum was pretty pretty good, well worth making the ~7 hour trip on my own (okay okay i gave a friend a ride on the way back but still…), would have liked to hang more with Yannick and Sven before the show but it is what it is. Looking forward to the Sprial demo and more shows.
Ended up in just another 100 Demons rabbit hole at the beginning of the year and already unloaded a bunch of photos on the gram, check it out i guess.
I found some really cool Stop And Think photos of this show at some point throughout the pandemic, glad there is video evidence now too.
For 12 years there was only that clip of ‘Master Killer’ from this show with Stephen from Kickback grabbing the mic and of course the dive from Sob, but the whole set surfaced recently. Beware: the stage banter is kinda wild from time to time…haha
last but definitely not least, a Floorpunch show from their european tour in 1999 which looks fuckin awesome.
My Eurocore gem for you to check out:
Maybe i’ll just throw one of these into every newsletter, who knows…The Realness is a band i still enjoy to this day. You might have guessed the sound already with the Morgado artwork above, it’s kind of Lockin Out worship. Their demo dropped when i got really into hardcore in the mid 2000s. They only released this and a promo the year after until they broke up. In 2012 an unreleased ep surfaced online, which you can check out on their still existing bandcamp beside everything else talked above.
It’s kinda funny looking back now that the first band i started with some friends from my small town in the late 2000s was pretty much inspired by them and some of the bands i felt they were influenced by. I wish i still had the practice space recordings just to check em out again. The band was called Hangman’s Noose (duh…) and we did cover ‘Get Lost’ by Stop And Think, never (probably for the better) made it out of the practice space though…the only other thing i can remember were the lyrics of one of the songs that were against public video surveilance.
“stop control, destroy cameras to be free”
I’ll spare you an even further trip down memory lane, that’s gonna be it for now.
