Welcome to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to AI
Join me as I learn about AI from scratch and share useful insights and resources for other builders, founders and PMs new to the space.
Welcome to The Hitchhikers Guide to AI!
In my career as a PM I have worked on many interesting problems that involved Machine Learning and AI such as face recognition, automatic photo enhancement, financial fraud detection, credit underwriting and customer support automation. However, while I was focused on the product experience, the real magic was done by Data Scientists and ML engineers whose work often felt like a black box to me. I didn’t feel it necessarily to really understand the details of what was going on under the hood with all the models we used nor did I really have the time to learn about what seemed like a really complex space. Better to leave it to the experts, I thought.
This all changed a few months ago when excitement around GPT3, Stable Diffusion and ChatGPT gathered momentum, especially on Tech Twitter. All of a sudden, AI products became more exciting and approachable vs. black box models. At the same time, many of the founders and product leaders I followed and respected were really getting into AI.
I felt like it was about time I started learning more about the space. In particular I was inspired by how the Generative AI space was evolving and as someone passionate about music creation myself, I wanted to see if there was a way to use AI to compose and produce music. As I dug deeper however, I became increasingly convinced that we’re at the beginning of an era of exponential advancement in AI and I hadn’t felt this excited about a new technology since Crypto in 2017 or the iPhone in 2007 (cliché, yes I know!). At that point I decided like my friend, that it was time to go All in.
As I continue to learn about AI, I want to share my journey with you all in the hopes that it will help those of you who are new to the field or just starting to explore the possibilities of AI in your products.
Each week, I will be sending out a newsletter with updates on what I have learned, interesting articles and case studies, and any tips and resources that I come across. My goal is to break down complex concepts and provide practical insights that you can apply to your own work as a product manager, founder or builder.
I am excited to embark on this journey with you and hope that more people will harness the power of AI to create innovative and impactful products.
Stay tuned for the first installment of my AI newsletter, coming your way soon!
Best, AJ
