µCosmic Brief #14: Defining Your Decentralized CEO
Overcoming ego to create a project people want to join and learning from tree seeds so you can define your team's purpose.
Define PURPOSE
In today’s µCosmic Brief, we’re introducing 0.7.2 Define Team PURPOSE so you have a better understanding of how you can form different departments within your mixtapeMythology (Decentralized Autonomous Organization).
GROUND Operations
You can think of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) a distributed team that’s able to operate autonomously because of easy to understand governance. Not everyone will agree with this definition, but it’s a good way to think of it for mixtapeMythologies.
Completing 0.7.1 Define Organization PURPOSE gave you a general way to describe your organization. With 0.7.2 Define Team PURPOSE, you’ll be expanding your organization’s purpose into 9 different decentralized teams:
Chief Executive Officer (Training)
Chief Operating Officer (Management)
Chief Information Officer (Meetings)
Chief Content Officer (Branding)
Chief Marketing Officer (Marketing)
Chief Sales Officer (Sales)
Chief Technology Officer (Development)
Chief Knowledge Officer (Writing)
Chief Visionary Officer (Storytelling)
No need to get overwhelmed with all of these, because all we’re focused on initially is creating a decentralized Chief Executive Officer so you can effectively train new contributors wherever they are.
INITIATE Mission
v0gr1ego
When developing the first team for your mixtapeMythology with 0.7.2 Define Team PURPOSE, you’re developing the onramp for people who want to help make your vision a reality. You might think this project is “your idea”, but if you want others to join, it’s important to think about them more than yourself.
“All this entails taking a journey together—a heroic one because it involves pain and forces you to shift from a focus on ego to a focus on facing the risks of life together.
—David Richo, How to be an Adult in Relationships—
As you work on defining the teams for your mixtapeMythology, try to get past your ego. Don’t try to control the way others think. Let go of what you think your community is, and try and leave room for the people who will join and really define what your ecosystem becomes.
v0gr2biomimicry
The teams you develop for your mixtapeMythology use biomimicry to learn important lessons from trees. Defining the purpose of your teams with 0.7.2 is similar to encoding a tree seed that you’re planting within your organization.
“The author’s inspiration for this book grew out of a strong belief that Ayurveda should be shared with Westerners in a simple, practical way. Heretofore, Ayurveda has been viewed in the West as an esoteric science. Yet it is a simple, practical science of life whose principles are universally applicable to each individual’s daily existence.
—Dr. Vasant Lad, Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing—
If you’re like me, the idea of having 9 different teams for a one person business can seem as overwhelming as Ayurveda is to westerners. Rather than trying to think of having to grow an entire forest from your idea, let’s use 0.7.2 Define Team PURPOSE to simply encode the seeds that will eventually grow into the diverse forest that is your mixtapeMythology.

So we’ve touched on how we need to get past our ego when developing teams for our mixtapeMythology so they’re more attractive for contributors. We also made note of the fact that this step is meant to simply be planting a seed for what your various teams can become, so there’s no need to get overwhelmed. Now what?
“I believe that it is perfectly possible to explain the basic and fundamental laws of life and of your mind in ordinary everyday language.
—Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind—
Now, you’ll play through 0.7.2 to define the Chief Executive Officer for your DAO (mixtapeMythology). hu3agency’s task will be to make this easier and easier for people to understand so parents can easily play with their kids. If any of this portion of the game is confusing, please let us know. We’re eager to keep improving.
