Tutt Street Studio News ~ August, 2022
Friends of the studio,
This morning, Kristen and I spotted a flatbed trailer carrying yellow steel I-beams. Can you imagine a more pleasing sight to start the day?
In case you’re new, I am writing a monthly letter about the goings-on at the studio instead of automatically posting all work on social media. We use a broad definition of work here, including client projects (design, video, etc.), building improvements, West.SB stories and events, playlists, and collaborations with friends.
I started a new project this month that requires sorting through my photo archive beginning in January 2016, when I bought my first camera, which comes out to about ~100,000 photos for consideration. It feels fun and emotional and tedious and worthwhile. A body of work is gradually emerging that I hope to introduce to you by the end of the year.
This month on the video front, Chuck Fry, Ryan Blaske, and I released a new series with the South Bend-Elkhart Regional Partnership featuring the stories of Clay Bottom Farm, Culver Pediatric Center, and small-scale developer Barbara Turner.
In design work, I helped the City’s Innovation & Technology team create interactive Build the Budget boards for public input on the 2023 budget. And I’ve continued working on editing and photography for Kath Keur’s new publication Food Belt. I am particularly fond of our photos for the latest article: Across the Tracks, Roselily’s Eamonn McParland Presents a Chef’s Tasting Experience.
For the South Bend friends, you are invited to Open Studio tomorrow, September 1st, 6-9 pm, 240 East Tutt Street. It will be a casual time to chat and see our workspaces—we’ll provide drinks, and Kath is curating snacks from our favorite local spots (Oh Mamma’s, Elder Bread, Love & Macs, etc.).
Find the door in the courtyard next to my truck.
Good times at Tutt Street. Until September,
Jacob
