In the previous post I talked about what prevents you from executing in an extraordinary way, I gave you 3 simple reasons:
Fear
Motivation
Discipline
I was telling you a little bit about each one, in this post I will give you more details about Fear, more specifically, Fear To Fail.
What scares you?
What is fear? I guess it's that thing that prevents us from doing the things we really want to do for fear of bad consequences in the future.
We live in complex and changing environments that require us to adapt to it constantly, but how do we make the right decisions to this change? This is a difficult question to answer. We have to decide so many things and so fast that we cannot stand still analyzing the decisions we make....
In all these decisions of change we have the constant doubt of how to align everything we do in life between what we like, our principles/values and what we think will be the right thing to do, and fear arises from being able to make mistakes in this alignment.
Let’s breakdown this 3 variables:
What we like:
What do we like? Maybe this is what we have to start deciding because it DOES depend on us. One thing to keep in mind is that when we really like something, we don't hesitate to say that we like it. But in what we like there are degrees, as we like many things. At what level of intensity do you like something? How much commitment are you going to devote to that part of your life? Are you going to dedicate your life? Or just some time each week?
Knowing what we like and the level of commitment we want to have in that we can clear the fear in this first variable.
Principles/values:
What principles and values do you have? Have you defined them? As individuals, we have to learn to work on these principles and to define how we behave in certain situations. Defining these principles is what underlies most of the decisions we make in our lives and also how to justify them.
As recommended in the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Ray Dalio's Principles, define them well and work on them weekly so you can know why you make the decisions you do and change the ones you don't like.
What is the right thing to do?
The right thing for whom? For you? For those around you? Often the social pressure sinks us and prevents us from going out and doing what we want to do. Defining principles of action in this matter will help you deal with the pressure and make better decisions. It will also help you decide what is the right thing to do.
When I talk about the "right thing to do", I mean the right thing for us professionally and personally, since most of the decisions in our lives fall on these two issues.
Does the decision help you professionally? Does it help you personally? What do you value more? Personal or professional life?
If we define the right thing to do as making a decision that has more "good" than bad", I invite you to write down your priorities, define them, punctuate them and order them. This will help you to know what is really important to you. Then make the decision and determine how much impact it has in each field, at this point you will surely have already seen if the decision is right or not.
Added point: Intuition
In spite of everything, intuition is the best indicator that we have, if you have intuition about a decision you should surely make that decision, remember that our unconscious brain analyzes many more variables than we can inicalizar and your subconscious may be right in some decisions.
Fear in execution
Once we have aligned everything, difficult, but if you find yourself executing now, you have to take into account other factors, such as the fear of failure, which paralyzes you and does not let you execute. How to overcome this fear?
Theory: Make a routemap, download it in detail on a daily basis and execute with discipline.
Practice: Psychology: Work on your emotions, believe in yourself and have discipline.
Without working on your emotions you go nowhere, without a routemap you go nowhere, without execution you go nowhere. You have to be able to align yourself in this three things... Is it difficult? Yes, of course it is. Nobody is going to give you anything for free.
