How to Avoid Masculine Mediocrity
Aim for the best of men and the best of women--precisely what very masculine men do
Welcome to the Year of Living Manly, where I use actual facts (data) to identify what very masculine men are like. It turns out they are not who you think, certainly not who I thought. And my goal this year is to try to be more like them by embracing the facts as well as exploring the stereotypes. At the core of this video I identify that very masculine men have two facets:
For some attributes they exemplify what men generally are, only taken to an extreme; and
For other attributes they score more like the average woman than they do all other men.
It's this duality that makes them so interesting and powerful, in my opinion. It’s why to avoid masculine mediocrity, we should aim to include all the attributes that very masculine men exemplify. It's why I personally want the best masculinity has to offer for me, my family, and my community.
Quick correction: At 7:40, I introduce the percentage of "all other men" who consider themselves emotional as 49%. That is a transcription error on my part (sorry). The correct number is 46%. #notgoingtoreshootvideojustforthat
