So, Liegois Media (which shares a title with a Wordpress blog), is now operating under a new name. I figured that since I don’t have a massive amount of subscribers as of yet, a rebranding would not be a disaster.
So, Liegois Media is now The Writing Life With Jason Liegois, which I think is a more accurate and specific title for what I am trying to build on this blog. I am talking about writing and the writing life here, and my writing life in particular. So, I think this title will fit where I am trying to go here on Substack.
I have to say that one of the advantages of the title is that “Jason Liegois” happens to be a pretty searchable name when it comes to Google. It hasn’t yet paid off in a massive amount of subscriptions, but it has allowed my high school and middle school students to search for my writings quite effectively. It appears that nearly half of them are using my profile pictures as their Google account icons. (As Arsenio Hall once stated, it’s one of those things that makes you go hmmmm.)
In a sign of how far down the style and writing rabbit hole I go sometimes, I was suddenly perplexed as to whether I needed to properly title this blog “The Writing Life With Jason Liegois” or “The Writing Life with Jason Liegois.” I was thinking that I was breaking some sort of style rule with how I was capitalizing the title. In doing some further investigation into the matter, I learned that the former title was correct under Associated Press (AP) rules, while the latter title was correct under Modern Language Association (MLA) style. Although my students use MLA rules in formatting their assignments in my classes, I began my career as a reporter using AP style. So, I decided here to defer to the AP in this instance.
So, you get the same writing (more or less) under a new title. It is here that I am really asking you to please consider subscribing to my Substack. It’s absolutely free at the moment, I likely won’t be requiring paid subscriptions for a while to come, and it’s going to be one of the fastest ways you can keep in touch with what I’m doing. I promise not to beg you to buy stuff all the time - usually, I’ll just be wanting to let you know what’s been up with me.
However, that does include the start of a new series that I am writing called The Yank Striker, with the first book in the series, also named The Yank Striker, tentatively scheduled to be released in January 2023. I wrote a post about it recently, but it is essentially a sports thriller about a young football player and part of a family of football players who is fascinated with finding himself in the sport of soccer. It basically is a long culmination of thinking that began several years back when I first asked myself, “what would an American version of Lionel Messi look like?” The answer to that question has taken a lot of twists and turns, but I think those of you who are soccer fans might be interested in that answer.
Again, if you do nothing else today, please subscribe to me. You don’t have to, but…
