Today I want to tell you about my new fiction-only publication on Substack. It’s for readers who enjoy serialized fiction and beautiful short stories that mirror real life. The new publication is called THE FICTION FIX, And if you already subscribe to The Jazprose Diaries, you don’t have to do a thing.
What is this?
If you’re the kind of person who likes to curl up with a good story, The Fiction Fix a place where you can do just that.
It’s also the place where you can read and/or listen to my short stories and longer installment fiction. From time to time, I also hope to include stories by other writers whose work you might want to check out.
The archived older stories you’ll find here were previously published on my original Substack publication, The Jazprose Diaries. However, it seemed best to separate fact from fiction (literally) by creating an entirely new publication—this one.
Here, you won’t have to sift through my essays to find the fiction you’d like to read. I’ve also selected ONE IMAGE per story to provide a visual cue and make it easier to navigate through pieces that have several chapters or many episodes like my novella Amanuensis.
Those of you who had already subscribed to The Jazprose Diaries as of this date (February 21, 2023) are automatically subscribed to The Fiction Fix. You’ll continue to receive my stories and essays just as you have in the past. You don’t have to do a thing.
But they will arrive in separate publications. One for essays and commentary, and this one for fiction.
On February 24
I’ll publish a Preface to the new edition along with a link at the end of each episode to make it easier to proceed from one episode to the next. For a while, I toyed with a a new title, but in the end I decided to keep the original title Amanuensis. I’ve just given it a new cover. I hope you like it.
On February 28th
I’ll publish my first new short story here at The Fiction Fix. It’s called “Word.” No installments on this one. You’ll receive the entire story in your inbox all at once.
1. “Word” is now called “My Word”
In March
I’ll publish another new short story. It’s called “A Promising Boy.” I hope you’ll enjoy it or at least find a morsel of interest in it.
2. A Promising Boy
Your clicks mean something
I know some of you like to fly beneath the radar when you read anything online. But if you can find a way to hit the LIKE, SHARE, or COMMENT buttons after reading a story here, it will—it really will—help others find my work.
Think of how you decide which products to buy on Amazon. Aren’t your decisions often guided by the number of stars or reviews posted beneath the item? It’s the same with Substack. Even if a paid subscription is not for you, those likes, shares, and comments can mean a lot.
And by the way, if you don’t actually like one of my stories, you can leave a simple comment that says something like: “Hmm. I need to think about this one awhile.”
I won’t be offended. I will be grateful because your comments show that the story had readers. It’s not just sitting there ignored, waiting to be swallowed by a Black Hole.
I look forward to hearing from you in the days ahead. And I hope you enjoy this new fiction-only option.
Thanks, as always, for your interest and support.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Fiction is the fix :)
Great to have come across The Fiction Fix for some serialised storytelling.
I'm on a similar journey with some serialised horror stories in my Tales Of The Frontier universe.
