Hello everyone!
In case you are new here, my name is JD and I am a writer. I’ve been writing at the Wasteland & Sky blog for near a decade at this point, and I’ve put out about 7 books (soon to be 10) as well as having appeared in many magazines and anthologies from Cirsova to Sidearm & Sorcery. Suffice to say, I’ve been around for awhile now.
I decided to come to Substack for several reasons, primarily the one being that I find most mailing lists worse than useless in regards to connecting with readers. They are also clunky to set up and a lot of the time they don’t end up where they are supposed to go. Sometimes they even get deleted by accident.
Either way, they are one and done releases that are not the most effective way to reach the wider audience and feel too throwaway for my taste.
I also post on Twitter and like how quick one can put something and get reader feedback instantly. Social media has its positives and negatives, but one thing that is nice is being able to have interaction with others in a way that a normal newsletter just cannot do.
I’m also readying my first ever Kickstarter campaign and figured that having a traditional newsletter constantly being funneled into inboxes and into the trash is a bit of a waste of everyone’s time. This way it will be easier to keep up with anyone who wants to, or they can just wait for a post more up their alley. Much better for everyone involved.
That’s all for this first post. If you came from the old newsletter, thanks for sticking around! Very little will really change for you except having a more permanent place to find updates. If you are new, welcome aboard. There’s a lot of projects coming down the pipeline in the future, and I cannot wait to share them with you.
See you soon!
Always good to see more of your writing, wherever it may be.
