Dear friends,
The 2024 legislative session has kicked into high gear as we near the home stretch. Hundreds of bills have been introduced in the past two weeks, many of which won’t ever reach the House floor. The Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee is preparing the final budgets for state agencies, and I look forward to a good discussion on the floor over how much of your money each of these agencies really needs.
Taking Flak
A couple weeks ago, the Idaho Democrats highlighted my debate against government funding for broadband internet. What they didn’t realize was that I was absolutely right. The Digital Equity Act is a Biden Administration program that provides $2.75 billion for “digital equity and inclusion.
Democrats reliably support two things: spending tax dollars and spreading their woke ideology. I will keep fighting against both!
Protecting Your Rights
A few days ago I introduced a bill to protect you from being “debanked” because of your political or religious views. Democrats mocked this too, but we’re starting to see financial institutions close accounts based on political activity or free speech. No American should fear losing their ability to transact business because of their beliefs. House Bill 669 passed the House overwhelmingly and now heads to the Senate.
Sometimes we lose a battle. A few days ago I joined my colleague Rep. Jordan Redman to present a bill prohibiting taxpayer dollars from being used for the welfare of those who are in the country illegally. Unfortunately, the committee decided not to send this bill to the floor. Personally I can’t see how any Idaho lawmaker can justify spending your tax dollars on people who have broken the law.
Remember to come out to vote at the Idaho Republican Presidential Caucus tomorrow at noon. If you don’t know your caucus location, click here to look it up. I look forward to seeing you there!
