Hello friend,
I collect . . . hope, dreams, joy, friends, a few things . . . and words.
I look for only the best ones, the ones that make you smile, or think, or remember the best moments. Sometimes, I discover unusual words and save them in a small notebook. Everyone needs a word book.
Words are like treasures hidden in the alphabet, like thalassophile, one who loves the sea, a person drawn to the ocean in particular, and bodies of water in general.
Dark words capture those foreboding days, the ones we would rather forget. Recrudescence is the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.
Others remind us of resilience and the few certainties that give us hope. Frondescent captures how nature awakens each spring as leaves quietly unfurl and trees and plants come to life.
My favorite words are ordinary, everyday words, like bliss, kind, grace, free, zest. You hear and speak them with little thought as they glide off the tongue. Those simple yet powerful conglomerates of letters encapsulating emotion.
I have days when I know the only cure for the blahs is to go in search of a glimmer. Not necessarily the faint flicker of light, but those little glimpses that lighten our heart. We breathe, calm, peaceful, and maybe sit with an irrepressible grin.
Millions of words compete for our time and
Energy, swirling in and out of conversations
Never staying long enough to capture
Attention. We let them swarm like bees stinging, singing,
Giving meaning as the silence
Erupts with shouts of joy, and happiness tumbles
Relentlessly across our day. There are words that
Inspire and nudge us to keep moving
Ever closer to the next moment, the best glimmers.
Every day holds a menagerie of thoughts, precious words.
I could go on all day like this, but I will leave you with one final word . . .hope.
This month comes to a close, but we can continue March—ing from bewilderment to possibility.
Don’t think you can make a difference? A simple letter contains the power of words. Taylor Bertolini tells us how.
Words and music, a powerful combination: Bee Gees: Words, Extreme: More Than Words, and two good words from Tim McGraw: Humble and Kind.
“I tried to discover, in the rumor of forests and waves, words that other men could not hear, and I pricked my ears to listen to the revelation of their harmony.”
—Gustave Flaubert
“Words are like eggs dropped from great heights; you can no more call them back than ignore the mess they leave when they fall.”
—Jodi Picoult
