Click play above to hear me read this post. I record every Weekly Artists Newsletter just for you.
The book study is below. First…
🎉 Big news! Next week I will be launching a Library of Guides and Toolkits! I am committed to keeping this newsletter as free and available as possible, so the Library will monetize past work to fund future newsletters for you. All the weekly newsletters will remain 100% free during the week they are published. After a week, they will join the other newsletters in the paid Library.
What’s the Library of Guides and Toolkits?
See a sneak peek here. It contains 50+ newsletters for artists interested in Guides for Children’s Book Illustration, Toolkits for Greeting Cards, Exclusive Reviews and Interviews, etc... Paid subscribers can unlock unlimited access to the whole Library.
Why?
It makes me happy that sharing my knowledge can help you grow, because others have helped me. By keeping the newsletter free for a week, you still get to read it, and I get to monetize past work to fund future newsletters. That means both you and I get value from it!
Can we donate as thank you, but not subscribe?
Substack offers monthly or annual subscriptions. If you’d like to subscribe for a month or two as a show of support, that’s very generous and thank you. It’s as if you’re buying me a coffee to fuel the 5 monthly newsletters!
Wait - what’s changing?
Not much, you still get to read for free! The weekly newsletters will remain free for the week they are published. After a week, they will join the paid Library, and you’ll receive a new free newsletter.
As we continue to learn together, I’m excited that I’ll get to share even more with you and continue building the Library. I’ve seen so many of you grow, get new projects, submit your portfolios, pitch to stores, and illustrate books! We are in this together, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all 350 of you who are subscribed. Thanks for joining me on this next step in the journey! <3
Children’s Book Study #3
Welcome to the third Children’s Book Study. Today we’ll be looking at Aaron Slater and the Sneaky Snake written by Andrea Beatty and illustrated by David Roberts. It was published in May 2023 by Abrams Books.
David Roberts is one of my favorite illustrators. Did you know has a degree in fashion? And I believe that experience absolutely shines in his kid books. I mean look at these shoes and outfit:
As illustrators, we have the opportunity to make so many choices as we design everything single aspect of a character.
